Threads is currently rolling out a new way for users of its iOS app to create dedicated feeds based on search results, similar to how it works for Threads on the web.

When a search is performed, the new option in the app lets users bookmark the search, after which it lives on in the Home tab, alongside the For You and Following feeds.

The feature has been available for a while on the Threads web view for desktop, where users could pin multiple customized columns, similar to the TweetDeck feature that used to be available on Twitter. The new addition for the iOS app is rolling out now, so you will probably want the latest app update installed so that you don't miss out when it arrives in your region.

Threads has been around for over a year now. When it launched back in July 2023, the experience was very barebones, but Meta has worked to add new functionality on a regular basis to put the social network on a more level pegging with X (Twitter).

It has since gained a web app, the ability to search for posts chronologically, a post editing feature, built-in translation, fediverse integration, fast account switching, and more.

The gradual trickle of new features appears to be paying off: The app now has more than 175 million active monthly users, according to Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg.

I know people get triggered with Elon Musk and wish Twitter would cease to exist. But hoping to give even more data to Zuckerberg is crazy. Apple tries to push Threads as the most downloaded in the App Store but we all know nobody uses.

Stop using Facebook, Instagram. Don’t install threads and if possible, convince your family and friends to use Signal instead of WhatsApp. Last one is wishful thinking.

People use Threads?
Yes, it's actually extremely active and popular. Actively growing too. It will take a lot and a long time to reach the content and legacy of Twitter's 15+ years of content, though. But it's very good.

My biggest issue with it is that it requires an Instagram account. I made a second IG just to have a Threads account where my personal followers don't recognize me.

Because people love interaction and being seen by people, which is only Meta can give while X and Mastodon can't.

The only way to drive people away from Meta is to provide the same needs. Many alternatives just criticise what is bad about Elon Musk and Meta but fail to see why they succeed.

i would love to use it on ipad, but i won’t hold my breathe it‘s obvious Meta has something against ipad apps since we’re not getting an Instagram & whatsapp.

I have Threads account by way of I think Instagram recommending it a while back. I'm still not really sure what it is or why I should us it over instagram 🤷‍♂️
I never really understood the appeal of Twitter either, so Im guessing its like the same thing.

So long as Instagram refuses to prioritize news Threads isn’t going to take off. My ‘For You’ feed is full of posts that are 12 or more hours old. If there’s breaking news nobody is going to see it on Threads first. Twitter/X is still the place to go.

Depends on how or what you use social media for, no? I use it, almost exclusively, to follow friends and family, and don't care about news or influencers, so it's fine.

I have some friends on threads so I use it. No one I know is on X/Twitter.

Threads is essentially Meta's answer to X. It launched with very limited functionality/features but is slowly "improving", mostly by adding things that already existed on X. Some things that you can do for free on Threads requires a paid account (starting at $3/month) on X such as longer posts (500 characters versus 280 on X) and post editing.

In that sense, there’s TikTok. I know it’s a privacy-nightmare but I rather have the CCP pushing propaganda than the US government. It’s extremely annoying the amount of propaganda being pushed. Try visiting Reddit. 80% of the “trending” topics are about politics.

Just like visiting YouTube. Useless reaction videos (legal way to steal content) and fake reviews from “influencers”.

I’m tempted to download Threads, but I don’t want/need another social media app on my phone. Plus, I still use Twitter for breaking news and such, even though that platform is barely hanging on by a thread (no pun intended).
