i would love to use it on ipad, but i won’t hold my breathe it‘s obvious Meta has something against ipad apps since we’re not getting an Instagram & whatsapp.
You can just go to threads.net.

So long as Instagram refuses to prioritize news Threads isn’t going to take off. My ‘For You’ feed is full of posts that are 12 or more hours old. If there’s breaking news nobody is going to see it on Threads first. Twitter/X is still the place to go.
What I'd love to know what is Meta's definition of news given that they've talked about having things like NBA scores, running commentaries etc. which in my book is still news or does Meta consider news things like politics that they want to de-prioritise. I can understand wanting to have a platform without the toxicity of politics but there has to be something on Threads to get people to not only visit but to stay and that can only be done by getting the big names to make Threads their home like how they used to have Twitter as their home.

Aw....all the little Apple Bloggers with their undeserved Blue Check marks (does anyone in the real world know who Marco Armant and Myke [with a "y"] Hurley are?) ran to Threads, a Zuckerberg platform, when Evil Elon took over Twitter.

It's amazing--these are the same people who HATED FB and Zuck, the same people who blamed all of the year 2016 on him and Estonians in their basement changing world events, yet they flocked to his platform (after Mastodon, lol) because Elon took their checks away. Boo-hoo.

I am happy they have their little safe space now where nobody disagrees with them and they can all spend their time sniffing each other's farts in their blue bubble.

Now they have Tweetdeck functionality back, as they pray at the alter of nasty Kara Swisher.

Without getting political, it’s popular with a certain group of people that prefer regulated content.
People who don't like to be disagreed with and enjoy an echo chamber.

I know people get triggered with Elon Musk and wish Twitter would cease to exist. But hoping to give even more data to Zuckerberg is crazy. Apple tries to push Threads as the most downloaded in the App Store but we all know nobody uses.

Stop using Facebook, Instagram. Don’t install threads and if possible, convince your family and friends to use Signal instead of WhatsApp. Last one is wishful thinking.
totally agree. Handing more data to ANY OF THEM is bad.

Nice bubble you must live in!
The Threads people are the one who live in their safe bubbles.

I've had the "stop using xyz" convos with so many family, friends, coworkers. Hell even some branches of military use Facebook messenger groups and WhatsApp for confidential communication. The general public doesn't care as long as the platform is free and provides entertainment so they are here to stay unfortunately.

I have ZERO interest in using social media to read, discuss, debate or be "informed" about politics, news and issues. I use it strictly for keeping up with family and friends, and absolutely nothing else. I'm quite involved in politics and issues, but not anonymously and not with a bunch of terminally online chuds.

Call that a bubble if you wish.

Mastodon is a thing
And so is BlueSky.

Both are struggling in numbers compared to Xitter and Threads, but if they last long enough then someday they could be important.

If Threads posts become visible on Mastodon through the promised integration then I'll use Mastodon more.

I’m tempted to download Threads, but I don’t want/need another social media app on my phone. Plus, I still use Twitter for breaking news and such, even though that platform is barely hanging on by a thread (no pun intended).
Requires an Instagram account, then once it's tied, you can't get rid of it.

"I like Twitter's style but wish it had Reddit moderators controlling what I see!" - Mastodon users.

I want to like Mastodon but I don’t think it’s ever going to get traction outside of nerds who can understand its somewhat complex nature.

And apparently every social platform is going to be driven by politics these days, one way or another.

It would be nice if there were an open social platform that could be standardized on kind of like what Twitter was but better.

Sadly it seems the only one who knows how to actually make one work is Facebook anymore. I had a brief moment of hope when Musk bought Twitter but now it’s worse than ever. So many older blog posts are nearly unreadable now because every link is broken because they all linked to damn Twitter.
