This won't be a real Twitter competitor until they allow lists. Once they do that, Twitter is toast.

But I'm not optimistic. I have a friend who's a product designer at Insta and have mentioned the need for lists for several years, and he acted like it's the first time he'd heard the idea. 🤷‍♂️

I don't really get this logic. Leave a social network that is already setup for things like that for another one just because they add a similar feature too?

Most people are going to use the service that has the engagement they are looking for. Some won't use Twitter because they have a deep disdain for Elon Musk. Some won't use Threads because they have a deep disdain for Meta on the whole. But most people will just use the service that works best for them. On inertia alone I highly doubt there is a mass exodus from Twitter anytime soon.

And of course like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, they (intentionally) half-ass it.

It's not the default, it can't be made the default and requires multiple clicks to get to it every time you open the app.

Yet another instance of a social media company thinking they know how someone wants to use the app better than that person does.

I wouldn't characterize it like that. I think they're trying to get out these quality of life features as quickly as possible and, to that end, they may not be as complete as they will end up being given more time.

Like the app itself, some of these features will need a few iterations to really lock them in.

People are still using Threads? I deleted the app within 48 hours. It was boring! Didn’t really find any purpose.

Yup! It's been a refreshing experience compared to Twitter, or X, or whatever it's called this week. Like any microblogging type of service, it won't be of interest unless you get value from that form of social media.

There has already been a mass exodus. Brand presences are shrinking. Celebrities are disappearing. So are news organizations and journalists.

EDIT: ITS NOT JUST ONE SWIPE, ITS A STUPID TAP THEN A SWIPE. Terrible implementation.

Just swipe over. One swipe. I agree it should be the default every time you open the app and permanently stay on following.

Who to dislike more? Zuck or Musk

To those still using Threads (I am), you need to click either the Threads logo at the top or the home button to reveal "For you" and "Following" timeline options.
Yep, or just double-tap the home button regardless of where you are in your feed.

The celebrities going away is not really something that I have any kind of awareness of, but I have not noticed any change in the usage of it in orgs that I personally follow for sports and current events news. Is there any sort of data point that shows the mass exodus?

Why the heck is this still not usable from a web browser?

Yeeep.... Seems that's what everyone did. They should have launched with a web interface that I can browse. I would have moved over to it. I'm not browsing it from my phone.

Threads doesn't really exist until it's on the web. I don't install social media apps on my phone anyway, but I certainly wouldn't install one created by Meta.
