Threads is working on a new web view that features the option to pin customized columns, similar to the TweetDeck feature that used to be available on Twitter. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared an image of the new web option, which he said is currently being tested.

The screenshot shows several custom columns, including a "For you" and several topic-based columns. Favorite searches, topics/keywords, accounts, saved posts, and notifications can be pinned at the current time, and there is an auto-refresh option to keep columns up to date with the newest posts.

Twitter, now renamed to X, has a similar "X Pro" feature that has the same format as the former TweetDeck option, but it requires an $8/month subscription to access. The Threads version would be free, and it could replicate much of the functionality that Twitter used to offer.

A column-based web view that's customizable could encourage more users to adopt Threads, and it prevents Threads users from being forced into the For you feed when opening Threads on the web. According to Bloomberg, Threads users that have the feature can pin up to 100 feeds to their homepage.

As of now, the multi-column view is being tested with a small number of users.

Earlier this week, Threads also added a new option to organize searches by recency, making it easier to find timely and relevant content on the social network.

Completely meaningless without being able to view content in reverse chronological order. Seeing ‘news’ that’s 2-3 days old is pointless.

Do you not know what DAU stands for? The article mentions that Threads has more DAUs than Twitter. So that makes Threads more important, right?
Not sure which world the article got their DAU stats from, but Twitter has 8-10 X more Daily active users compared to threads. Threads was/is a disaster When compared to twitter. Here is another kicker, Threads monthly active users is lower than X/twitter DAU. There are lot of analytics firms which track the data for marketing, and none of them have Threads more than 20-30 M DAU. X or twitter has around 200-250 M DAU. And the engagement numbers for threads are in the range of 5-10 Mins, X has usage metrics of around 30 mins.

I don’t use Threads or X, but the fact you’re arguing over which is bigger says it all. Twitter has been around 18y versus Threads only 1. Conclusion: either Musk really drove Twitter into the ground. Or Threads is doing fine.

Elon-haters flee X in favor of Zuckerberg the Corrupt. That will never make sense to me.
That’s true. And Threads only came about as Zuck saw an opportunity when Musk was messing around with Twitter.

But I guess a lot of people just don’t want Musk to control the world’s town square. Which would indeed be disastrous.

People know that Zuckerberg is a money-grabbing despicable person.

It doesn’t matter how much some hate Musk. Nobody is bothering with Threads.

Hopefully people will quit Facebook, TikTok and all big ones. Discussion forums are at least more specific. Here you have some morons who like to express their political views instead of sticking to technology.

Threads has 150m+ users and higher DAUs than X.

And with it now supporting ActivityPub you can follow people from Mastodon which is really cool.
How many of those users are active is the question. Maybe the better question is how many Gen Z users are interested? Many seem to dislike Instagram so I don’t think Threads would be any different for them.
