Impossible to tell what's real and what's fake on Twitter, since there is no editorial filter.

You need censorship and editorial controls to know what's real, otherwise you will end up believing anything that any random person would publish.

Additionally, the blue checks are all low-quality garbage spam that no one wants to see.

Twitter is useless garbage at this point. Not sure why anyone still uses it.

Your mistake was believing the blue checks ever had value.

It wasn't a filter. It was a stamp of approval from the Twitter staff, often sold for large sums.

Meta intends to launch Threads in the European Union next month, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The social media network debuted in most markets in July, but did not launch in the EU because Meta was unsure whether it would be able to adhere to the bloc's stringent regulations for online services. Threads can import data from Instagram, including behavioral and advertising information.

According to sources who spoke to WSJ, Meta will comply with the regulations by giving EU users a choice of using Threads purely for consumption, without a profile that allows them to make their own posts.

The change coincides with recent comments by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, who said the platform was rolling out a way to delete or deactivate a Threads profile separately while leaving the associated Instagram account intact.

The large market expansion should see Threads' user numbers take a jump. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on a company earnings call last month that Threads now has "just under" 100 million monthly users. Since its launch earlier this year it has gained a web app, an ability to search for posts, and a post editing feature.

The expansion comes after several major advertisers, including Apple and Disney, suspended ad spending on Threads rival X (formerly Twitter) after Elon Musk posted controversial comments from his account. Musk on Wednesday said the post in question was a "mistake," and anyone trying to "blackmail" him over advertising money could "go f–yourself," while also admitting the loss of ad revenue could end the social media platform.
As mentioned above, Threads integrates with Instagram, so it continues to have a strong user base for such a new app. MacRumors is on Threads, and all of our content is posted there for those who would like to follow us outside of Twitter and Facebook.

Does this mean I don’t ever have to fill in a questionnaire form again because they know everything already anyway?

Why? Didn't it die already?

Just polled the room, ten people. They all knew about Threads, 8 thought it was dead and closed including me.

Also, did another poll. All 10 have no interest in the VisionPro and only 1 has the financial ability to afford it.

Thread will take off like a rocket as soon as Taylor Swift announce she is abandoning X for Thread. That’s the only way this app will catch on with mainstream users. But as of now, is not on anyone’s radar.

Nope, it’s been dead pretty much since it opened.
correct. The daily user minutes wouldn't dent a single large account on Twitter(the X name is stupid).

The article from macrumers.com is a hack journalism hit job that wildly tries to distort the truth. Suggesting that Threads has 100M active users and will be growing into EU while Twitter is dying. The exact opposite is true. Twitter is getting more traffic every quarter. Threads has be just shy of DOA since the start.

These are simple facts macrumers try to present as the exact opposite and adding the EU might be Thread's last hope for relevance. (It's hard to say for sure, Facebook has enough money to keep it in a vegetative state for years if they want)

Since the Macrumors editors appear to be politics hacks and liars, they should stay away from politics.

Honestly, it's actually not that bad. I joined threads the same day it came out and I honestly don't regret it. Ironically, the biggest promoter of threads is Elon himself lmao. Dude has lost his ****ing mind. There's zero chance I would ever go back to that dumpster fire. I don't know when Zuck is gonna add ads to threads though. Once he does that, I'm not sure how to feel but will at least have a platform run by a sane person who doesn't live in Delulu land

Glad to hear that it is expanding to EU. Don't know how popular it will be though.

Bwahahahaha.... imagine thinking Musk has not earned the derision aimed at him.
From who ? The minority mafia of SJwarrior cencroship professionals ? Tell me one serious accusation. One ? Because he uploaded some memes of pride events and made fun of crazy green/pink hair lunatics ? OMG…. this guy is a nazi 🤣🤣

Can’t wait!
As soon as Threads app is available in EU - Twitter will be dead to me.

While I mostly stayed away from the political side of Twitter - it’s impossible to ignore that the app degraded significantly in quality during Elmo’s reign and is unpleasant to use now.

Add to that tons of unpleasant scammy ads and that at least half of my favourite creators (musicians, scientists, city planners, etc) were hounded off it by the right wing mob - and what’s the point of staying?

I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. Zuck said something about no ads until 1b active users so maybe we've got a couple years

Yeah, X has annoying ads and a lot of fake accounts for even more spam. But Meta does the other thing, scraping your data from all conversations and sell it to advertisers, insurance companies, nsa and others.

What's the point of using all those platforms anyway?

Threads is for political Karens to scream in a vacuum. It's actually ruining Instagram because I see forced ads for Threads all the time now.

They're anti-American because they all chose to exercise their right to not advertise on X/Twitter.

No American company should have that right.

:D
They wanted X to suppress free speech and threatened to hold their ad dollars. That's what makes them anti-American. But sure, strawman the heck out of it. Apropos.

That argument makes sense only if X had any intrinsic right to the ad dollars.

Otherwise they're not withholding anything. They're just stopping a business relationship that's not bringing them benefit. Because that's what ad dollars are supposed to bring: Benefit. It's not a free speech charity.

And speaking of charity, why is Elon Musk even asking advertisers for money? He has enough money to keep Twitter running for a century. But he's withholding his personal funds from Twitter, even extracting money to finance the acquisition. Why? Would you call that "anti-American", as well? What's the difference?

That is a lot of stretching. I don't think he really cares that much about their ad dollars, hence the foul language drop. He cares that the companies were not transparent about anything, much how people were mad when the FBI was exposed suppressing information voters should know about. Why would they be mad? Shouldn't we want transparency? These companies want to control what information is available and return things to pre-Roosevelt monopolies. They can't win by eliminating the 1st amendment, but they can outspend the 1st amendment.
Monopolies are anti American and anti democratic.
