On occasion, the "top shelf" of the AppleTV interface will not properly show the thumbnails for some TV series. It is random, and not consistent even from ATV to ATV.

For instance, I noticed today on my family room ATV that the thumbnail for Season 7 of a show was just a gray box. But on my bedroom ATV, that thumbnail was present.

Any ideas?

I have tried rebooting. I was initially thinking it had to do with the embedded image in my file. But since the image appears on my bedroom ATV and not my family room TV, it is likely not that.

It isn't a big deal, just annoying.

I also have this problem, you are not alone. Rebooting everything does not resolve the issue. I have noticed that the problem is only with Top Shelf displaying the artwork. If you browse to the media using the Computers app it will display properly (or at least in my case)

Like you I have an older Apple TV (ATV2) in another room that does not suffer from this. I use iFlicks 2 to tag my TV Shows and iDentify to tag movies. This issue is maddening and makes me want to pull my hair out as I've very OCD about having everything tagged properly.

This issue has caused me to start running a Plex server to stream all of my local content. Plex does offer separate metadata about the Movies or TV Shows other than what is in iTunes. If you haven't checked out Plex yet, you really should. Fair warning, if you do try Plex out, be prepared to want to buy a new Apple TV for your other room, you will love it so much that you will want Plex on every Apple TV you have. Plex's implementation is miles better than Apple's Computers app. Plex also works a million times better on the mobile devices - I've always had issues with iOS's Video app not loading due to the size of my library.

I actually do have Plex. And, I have 3 ATV4 units, no older ones. I run Plex along side of iTunes, so actually can dream with either using the same underlying files.

I haven't made the switch over to Plex fully yet, but will soon.

So far the only negative I've had with Plex is that it can't play movies that you purchased through iTunes. It works great with DVD rips, but nothing with DRM.

Just wanted to chime in and say I have this problem too. I've got (3) aTV Gen 4s in the house, and often one of them (not always the same one) will refuse to show the artwork for a music album in the top shelf area. Rebooting does nothing to solve it. It seems random.

I came on here now to make this very thread. Just random movies I have (using Meta Z) cover art isn't showing, but for others I've used the same program for it shows...curious as to what this is?

EDIT: I just want to state this is on my ATV4 only, not my ATV3's I have in other rooms.
