Been using it since at least version 0.7. It's my favorite e-mail client. Never liked Apple's client nor Outlook. Outlook being too slow, especially with IMAP. Plus support for calendar and contact syncing outside of MS Exchange is poor. Apple's due to lack of customization options.

Although my gripe with Thunderbird is after Google switched to OAUTH. Getting the calendar to sync with Lightning is a pain. I've read it is possible but the I didn't want to bother when I could just use another app for my calendar. I did love being able to copy and paste entries though.

Not a perfect client but a darn good one. My gripe is the lack of sounds when sending or receiving email.

I have noticed that Outlook is faster with the latest version and a SSD HD. Still however slower than Thunderbird.

I actually had a serious issue with Outlook 2016 (although I did like it when it worked), and that was the reason I switched to Thunderbird. While the interface might not be as jazzy as other EMail clients, it just works, which is fine by me.

By the way, are you using Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2019?

2019.Easier to use and troubleshoot than TB.

I like Thunderbird been using it for a long time as a second email client - I have always preferred Outlook for great contact management, the integrated calendar, and invitations for working with "windows users" for meetings and appointments.

One thing I really liked about Thunderbird was the email scheduling "add on" which worked fine on Mojave - have not tried it on Catalina - cool for sending out emails at scheduled dates and times.

FWIW - I have not noticed any performance hit / slow down on Outlook 2016 or 2019 - they seem fine to me - and in fact seems better than apple mail

It's better than it used to be at IMAP. By leaps and bounds. Still when you're syncing thousands of emails across multiple accounts with lots of sub-folders. It is still dog slow compared to Thunderbird. When used with IMAP.

Try the ToneQuilla or Mailbox Alert Addons. You can do all sort of customized sounds. Another plus for Thunderbird is the massive amount of customization you can do.

Personally, I can't stand alerts, pop-ups, notifications, &c. It's all a distraction when I'm trying to work.

Better than Apple Mail? Not in my experience. Apple mail ran fast even when I had a spinner. Tell me about this email scheduling feature.
