I have an older MB Pro A1286 15" from 2012 with a Thunderbolt 1 connector and would like to connect it via an HDMI adapter to an external monitor.

I wonder if Apple has ever made any Thunderbolt 1 to HDMI adapters because during my research I couldn't find any.

Also on AMAZON I only get Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter to choose from.
I am not sure if this adapter will work on my computer so I have not bought any of them yet.

Does anyone know of any alternatives that I can pick from and recommend them - or even name the model number of the correct adapter from Apple?

Yes, Mini Displayport to HDMI will work. Thunderbolt (1 and 2) uses the same connection and carries the DP information as a subset.
