Thunderbolt 2 and Mini Display Port

I've just upgraded from an ancient 2009 Mac Mini to a 2014 Mac Mini. My monitor is VGA only and I had it plugged into a Mini Display port on the old machine. Can I now use the Mini Display plug with a Thunderbolt 2 port on the newer machine? Many thanks.

The longer answer is that a Thunderbolt 1 or 2 port acts like a regular MiniDisplayPort if a (Mini)DisplayPort device or adapter is plugged in. 🙂
