Have ordered a 14" MB Pro M1 to connect via USB C to a Dell Ultrasharp Ultrawide monitor :
The Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor: U3421WE | Dell UK

I also have a mid 2015 Mb Pro

which has Thunderbolt 2 and that, unless I'm mistaken, can be connected to the Displayport on the Dell monitor. The Displayport on the Dell is a full size female Display Port.

According to the specs, my 2015 MB Pro supports a maximum resolution of 5120x2160 on an external display.
(*This model can support a single external display up to 5120x2160 at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt 2. Via HDMI video output, it can support 1080p up to 60 Hz, 3840x2160 at 30 Hz, and 4096x2160 at 24 Hz.)
The Dell has a resolution of 3440 x 1440 so in theory, I should be ok.
But I'm not quite sure what cable I would need for this setup...

Can anyone offer any advice ?

Yeah, that they are connecting "via USB C".

Again, maybe I am wrong, but I am pretty sure the OP is asking about their 2015 MBP, not the M1.

Sounds like they know exactly how to connect their M1, probably with the USB C cable that is included with the monitor.

Oh OK i get it now. Whoops LOL

You should be able to connect your M1 MBP via the USB-C cable provided with the display.
You will not be able to connect your 2015 MBP with the HDMI cable provided with the display: in theory you could output the display's resolution at 50 Hz given your MBP's limitations, but 3440*1440 @50Hz is not a mode supported by the display according to its documentation online.
You will therefore need a displayport to minidisplayport cable, or a displayport (female) to mini displayport (male) adapter given your display includes a male-male displayport cable.
