Wasn't this on older versions of macOS and mainly on hackintoshes? I remember reading something a couple of years ago and it was always hacks up to Monterey that had the problem.

I attempted to use a Samsung 980 PRO in a MP 6,1 and encountered the TRIM problems. The problem was not particularly noticeable at first running when I was running Big Sur. When I updated to Monterey, the computer became unusable. Boot times were horrendous.

Some people have reported the WD Black SN850X works well. I do not use one so do not have direct experience with it. I have used the Kingston Fury Renegade in my MP 6,1 and am happy so far (been using it for a year now). The endurance rating of the Kingston blade was of particular interest to me. You do not need a PCIe 5 blade for the ACASIS enclosure.
I just bought a cheap $56 USB4 NVMe enclosure from Maiwo on a whim that uses the new USB4 ASMEDIA 2464 chipset.
Unfortunately I only have an old 2TB Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus so write performance (and the drive is half full) isn't the greatest but it appears to use the full bandwidth (20Gbps x2) allowed by USB4 for read performance.
It replaces the OWC Envoy Express which is only a 2x link TB3 enclosure that maxed out at 1.4GBps read and write.

Under intense load I have seen the temperature rise to 51℃ so far, otherwise it hovers around 40-45℃ depending on room temperature.
51℃ is quite cool for intense load. Is that the NVMe temp or enclosure surface temp? In my testing the ASM2464 chipset gets really hot under intense load.
That's the reading from the SSD. Yes, the case gets warm to the touch but I have only seen the reading say 51℃ so far under usage.
Unless you are in Scandinavia it won't do you any good 🙈

Any recommendations for a 2TB SSD for TBU401 enclosure to be used with Macbook Pro at today's prices/deals? Some I'm seeing are Lexar NM800 Pro, NM790, Samsung 980 Pro are all around similar price. 4TB would be better but price is a factor.
The TBU401 is an Acasis device, and Acasis recommends the 980 Pro.

The info in the Acasis chart is obsolete. The first post in the Mac Pro forum regarding compatible SSDs has this info for the Samsung 970 EVO and EVO Plus:

From what you wrote it's only the 970 EVO/EVO Plus info. that's obsolete. So you should have said just that, instead of making the sweeping statement that "The info in the Acasis chart is obsolete"; the latter misinforms people because it makes it sound like the chart info. is obsolete generally.
Plus the poster to whom I was responding was trying to decide among the Lexar NM800 Pro and NM790, and the Samsung 980 Pro. Based on the chart, the Samsung 980 Pro seems like the best choice among them because it's the only one for which they have data verifying it works well. The update to the 970 EVO/EVO Plus is irrelevant to that.
Acasis has never stopped discouraging buyers to get 970 EVO Plus with their enclosures. The TBU-401 is already off-shelf in their official TMALL page (Chinese Amazon), but with the TBU-405 series, the compatibility chart still says "Samsung PM series: PM981A, PM9A1, 970 EVO Plus may face compatibility issues on Macs"
Then my personal experience: about a year ago when TBU-405 was new, I put in a 970 EVO Plus 2TB to test, it "works" but write speed never exceeded 15000MB/s or so. I ended up putting in a WD SN850X in the enclosure instead, the 970 EVO Plus goes back to a WAVLINK (TB3). That specific 970 EVO Plus was manufactured in 2021 August.

I have an Acasis TBU401 with Samsung Pro 980 and this SSD is not recommended as bootable drive. Slow boot (several minutes) and a lot of spinning beachballs. Avoid the Samsung 980. In another thread a user recommends Western Digital.

Yes, there's an entire thread devoted to upgrading the internal (boot) drives on iMacs, and for use as a boot drive it's recommended one avoid the 980 Pro:
However, this thread is about using external drives not as boot drives, but for external storage (note the thread's title). And for external storage, the 980 Pro has been show to work well in an Acasis TBU401.
In summary:
Boot drive: 980 Pro bad.
Storage drive: 980 Pro good (at least in the TBU401).
I just purchased Satechi TB4 SSD Enclosure. Pair with Samsung 990 Pro 1TB, this is what I get on my Base MS M2 Max. I use the TB4 cable that comes with the enclosure. Pretty happy with the result so far.
Satechi does not want to say which chipset they are using on their enclosure, but this blog said Satechi is using ASM2464PD chipset, just like Zike drive.

I recently bought an ACASIS TBU405 with a Crucial P3 4TB, and am getting Read/Write around 2,700 MB/s.
