Can one run an older display port cinema display AND one of the newer thunderbolt ones together, with the rMBP?

Im 99% sure the answer is yes, but just want to be sure. Also, will I need any special adapters?

They can both run.

The old Cinema display :

Plug the mini-displayport cable on the old 27" to the Thunderbolt port on the TB display.

Well I received my thunderbolt display and that doesn't work. It does work if I just plug them both into the rMBP, but I thought we could daisy chain these things together....?
