Im looking to buy a male to male thunderbolt 1/2 cable, for my soon to be arriving eGPU for my rMBP.
is the apple cable the best choice? I was looking for cheaper alternatives if possible that said I don't want something janky just to save a few dollars.
most of the listings i see now are either for thunderbolt 3 cables or they are mislabled mini DisplayPort cables.
I'm also wondering if length matters hypothetically if I went to the Apple route should I get the 0.5 m cable order 2m cable, could it make a performance difference?

thanks

You won't find really cheap thunderbolt cables because the cables use chips in each end of the cable that make tb cables expensive. I've found Apple cables and OWC cables to be equally good, in various lengths up to 2m.

What I've noted is the resolution changes. Sometimes it only works at 1080P and others it works at the max resolution. I am assuming this is a cheap cable issue.

I'm confused. You asked about Thunderbolt data cables, than moved to discuss resolution, and finally posted a link to a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable, not a Thunderbolt cable.

You need a Thunderbolt cable from the MacBook Pro to the eGPU and a video cable for the run from the eGPU to the display. Length shouldn't really matter.

Sorry, here is my issue. I have a 27" external monitor. The resolution is only 1080P with my current cable. I want to be able to have maximum resolution as I use the second monitor for pallets.
