not so! there are PC motherboards on the market now w/ TB ports :)
i think they're pretty expensive though-- but we mac users are used to dropping hundreds on a "logic board," so a $300 motherboard shouldn't be that big a deal.:p

As long as this discourages some people from buying a PC, then Apple won't be likely to add non-Mac input options to their displays  And now that the new USB standard has been announced that will achieve the same 10 Gbps bitrate as Thunderbolt, I don't see a strong future for Thunderbolt in the PC world.

agreed

I'm also waiting patiently for a new Thunderbolt Display....(as well as a new Retina MacBook Pro..)
The next three months are going to be quite exciting.

...slightly unbearable, but exciting.:D

Whatever the case, I think it's strange to launch a product like the Mac Pro without a new display.

Looks like a no go. :(
Mostlikely a 4K display to go hand in hand with the Mac Pro in December, but no TBD refresh for other users.

I assume they will be announced in an Apple TV event or when they make the new Mac Mini smaller and lighter...it makes sense to release both at the same time.

DECEMBER 2013, I'll bet you a buck!

I really think the ThunderBolt display will be updated in December. They've announced the MacPro, (first sometime in 2013, then fall, now as of today, December. I think they will will have a whole desktop event then, with the MacPro, MacMini & TBD 2.0. They have specifically said at the MacPro announcement that the MacPro will work with 3rd party 4k displays, so I highly doubt this to be a 4k display. The other option would be to dump this product altogether, but I think with the IMac design already done, they will want to show off the new mini and pro with a new, finally-updated, monitor/hub. While the numbers of these produced may be small, I've got to think that at the current pricing, it's a profitable product not worth walking away from, especially considering the physical design is already finished. With the Pro coming in at prosumer pricing ($3K), there's a lot of Apple customers who will want the prestige of owning the flagship, made in the USA computer. Most of those people are not going to turn around and buy a 4k display for $4K, or buy a cheap dell, but will want to show off their Apple status symbol with a new ATD. Considering that sales and supply of ATDs has been low recently due to a very outdated design and ports, and that they no longer can sell them in Europe due to new EU standards and lack of a internal fan shroud; I can not understand why they wouldn't update this product just in time for Christmas. With MagSafe 2 and USB 3 standards for so long, plus now TB 2 as a Pro standard, they would do well with an update that is compatible with every single current Mac they sell. People here were saying they would never come out with a new Pro for years, and yet they will; I believe the same is true with this product. Fear not, Apple still wants your money.

Specifications:
Current 27" IMac physical structure, available with stand or VESA mount.
Current IMac low glare screen
Current IMac speakers
MagSafe 2
Current IMac I/O with possible addition of ThunderBolt 2.0 ports
Current Imac IO ports include:
SDXC Card Slot
Four USB 3.O
Two ThunderBolt 2.0 ports (possibly three total including tethered cable, or they might want some extra for the cable this time)
Headphone
Gigabit Ethernet
Full Res FaceTime Camera/Microphone

I think the above is a given, but Apple might have some other additions:
Greater than 2560-by-1440 resolution, but not 4k
Graphics Card, or a better yet, an upgradeable slot for it, (TB2 is fast enough to utilize this in a hub device)
AppleTV built in, potentially the devise Jobs was talking about for the last couple years of his life.
Optional Remote, Free IOS remote app for your iPhone/IPad

$999 + potential upgrades

I know what I'm getting for Christmas!

----------

Oh and one more possible addition, a HDMI 1.4 input.

I've been waiting almost a year and a half for this, ever since I got my previous generation MacBook Air, so I get the first one!

I agree with the last commenter that there will be updates in December, but, they will be quiet ones, no event to go with it.

Apple will add a 4K display to stores/online at the same time Mac Pros are available, if not their own, then perhaps that black Sharp 4K display shown in event videos of people using Mac Pro. (Apple has had non-Apple brand displays in store before).

Apple may update the 27" display to be similar to iMac.

Mac Mini might see bump, nothing major, soon or in december, but, again, it will be quiet, no fanfare.

A completely new Apple TV is in the works, but, not soon, perhaps next fall.

On a separate note, seriously, probably not before 2015, but, iOS & OS X are merging...at some point Apple will go all touch-screen. I find myself sometimes trying to do this with my MacBook Pro as it is.

Making Macs again in the US is prestige for Apple. They're going to want press to help us forget about those factories in China where they installed nets outside of the windows to prevent worker suicide. I think there will be an event with new MacPro, MacMini, ATD & also non-retina PowerBooks plus software. Apple may have gotten mostly out of the peripheral market, and most monitors, but they will retain one 27" high-end monitor/hub. I agree that they will sell both a third-party 4k monitor in the store and online. I wouldn't doubt that in their signature NYC store, you will probably see a MacPro running three 4k monitors. It's been a long time since they were the player in the high-end market, and just like they've been advertising the MacPros in movie theaters, they've proved they can innovate post-Jobs, now they want to showcase that.

With the new 15" rMBP having 2880x1800, I can see the new ATD coming up to that horizontally, but it is a different aspect ratio. Maybe a 2880x1620 or even higher?

My crystal ball tells me:
Silent refresh to ATD27 to the not-so-new-anymore iMac design, etc., same res
New ACD21.5, 1920x1080 with MDP+HDMI so you can drive 3 of them off an MBP
New "Apple Retina Display," 24" with 3840x2400. New Mac Pro drives 3 of them, other Macs drive 1 of them.

I doubt they come out with more than 1 monitor. Thunderbolt has been their standard now for a while, and I doubt we'll see another cinema display. I too don't see them going for a smaller model, because it has been a long while since they have competed in that area. Early December!

If they would do a second monitor, I bet it would just be a TB monitor without a hub. It would be a cheaper option for those hooking up their desktops and don't need a hub, plus work as a third monitor on a laptop as you wouldn't need the hub there either. The only reason why I think they might consider doing this, is it wouldn't take nearly any engineering to do, just a stripped down version of the TBD. My doubt would be that as monitor sales are already low, they may not want to carry 2 models anymore. It would be a great if you could hook an iMac up to two TBD (without hubs) that look just like the iMac, and you could do it for only a little more than what 1 TBD (with hub) would cost. This set up could work well for all their desktops. With a laptop, identical looking models, one with a hub, and one without would make more sense than having two hubs. It would be nice if they did this, and preferably, the hubless TBD would still have a TB port, for daisy chaining. I think a hubless TBD at a few hundred dollars less would far outsell the Cinema display, and possibly even come close to sales of their hubbed TBD.
