The 27" thunderbolt display is too big. I wish apple to release a 20" version. Is there any other thunderbolt dock station (without display) for MBA available?

Not at this time. There is a company working on an external graphics card enclosure for Thunderbolt, and it'd be surprising if they didn't add other ports to it.

Alas, that graphics card enclosure is going to be severely bandwidth challenged on the Air's gimped Thunderbolt port. :(

How so? all thunderbolt ports have the same bandwidth available to it.
The difference between the two thunderbolt chips is one supports two ports (and only the 27" iMac has two ports) and the one in the Air only supports one

The TB port in MBAs is exactly the same as in MBPs and other Macs - it's good for up to 20Gb/s. The difference is that other Macs have Light Ridge chips which is good for up to two ports and four channels (40Gb/s). However, one port does not support more than two channels (20Gb/s) so half of the channels sit unused in MBP.
