Hey all,

I’ve been using a Caldigit TB3 for years now and wondered if anyone knew of a way (or another dock) to disable charging while keeping the other functions of the dock? As I understand that keeping your MacBook plugged in all the time can affect the battery and given I have an M1 I rarely need to charge it anyway.

Does anyone know of such a thing?

Your Mac will manage this. My MBP is almost always docked. MacOS will keep it at a “maintenance level” and not charge it past ~75% in order to keep the battery happy during long phases of being plugged in. You will see this expressed in the battery drop down.

You can manually make the Mac stop charging at any desired percentage level if you use the free AlDente app.

Did you find a doc that allows you to disable charging?

You're best off doing it in software with something like Al Dente (as others have posted). I'm not aware of any option to disable charging on these hubs/docks.
