I am torn between ordering this now, or waiting for some user reviews to come in before purchase.

My main use would be for USB 3, my 2011 iMac has all the other ports already (except hdmi, but I can use an adapter if I ever need it.)

Caldigit one support tablet charging and full speed usb 3.0 plus the hdmi out

Don't see any reason to buy the belkin one now

Ordered caldigit one today !

I ordered mine too.

Let's all say a prayer that this device lives up to its specs, hopes and dreams.

I was hoping that the order would be prime eligable so that I could get it two days after shipping but alas it is not..

For anyone that pre-orders, there is a chance that you may get 2-day shipping after all (I called in to ask about what shipping times would be).

Two things I'd like to see in this category:

#1: Thunderbolt 1 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Could theoretically be possible since thunderbolt 2 is really just coupling both 10Gbps channels into one 20Gbps. I have to review the data again but I think thunderbolt 1 sorta like full duplex and thunderbolt 2 is like half duplex. Even if it required two ports I'd still be happy...although with two ports 40Gbps total (20 one way 20 the other or 40 half duplex) would be possible, external GPU's would be in my sights even more so! Although even at 10Gbps eGPU's are still usable for GPU accelerated non-latency dependent software.

#2: Thunderbolt daisy chain adapter: I have a LaCie Thunderbolt hard drive and a Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt capture card. Both only have one port, both could easily run off USB 3.0 which is only 4.8Gbps so I should be able to daisy chain them if they had a port, a splitter or adapter that you plug into one port on a device to give it two ports and thus daisy chaining would be very useful. Of course I have two TB ports and can always use my LaCie drives USB 3.0 Cable if I were to have both ports occupied and needed to hook up to a high speed gigabit ethernet network via thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapterto edit of a NAS + use a firewire adapter I'd be kind of disapointed.

Anyone have a need for what I just outlined?

I got mine today-

device is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I am traveling so I won't get to play until this weekend-anyone else start playing yet?

My CalDigit hub came in the mail today. Hooked it up with the following attached to it: gigabit Ethernet cable, Apple 23" Cinema Display, Toshiba USB 3 portable drive, Apple full size keyboard, and speakers. It took a few minutes for the ethernet port to be recognized and become active. USB ports worked immediately as did the output Thunderbolt/mini display port.

Main benefit to me is only having to connect the dock and magsafe to my MacBook Pro when docking. Everything else is connected to the dock or display. I can now unpack my MBP and have it running in clamshell mode in a matter of seconds.

Since I didn't have USB 3 ports on my 2011 MBP, I was curious how much faster it would be. I ran speed tests on an external Toshiba drive with USB 2 and with USB 3. The results are shown below. This makes an external drive usable. Drive speeds are close to what I had before upgrading to a SSD.

The unit matches the base of my ACD and fits there fairly well.

Thanks for posting the HD speed test results

I have a 2011 iMac and have been pondering a better solution for my backup and movie library than the 3 FW800 drives I currently have. This is starting to look like a reasonable approach to switch from FW800 to USB3.

TB is expanded by using a "daisy chain" topology... and for most people, it works pretty well. I currently use a fair amount of TB equipment, and I have not been inhibited at all by adding everthing that I need... with lots of room for additional expansion if I wish.

My setup is as follows:

iMac TB1 -> Apple Thunderbolt Display (dual monitor setup)
iMac TB2 -> Pegasus R4 -> Seagate 3TB Desk HDD -> Unterminated TB on desktop

Problem for MBP/ MBA owners with a single TB port wishing to use their existing (non-Apple non-TB) displays is that some devices like BMD design Ultrastudio are not pass thru but TB terminators. If I want ext display and BMD video capture, well I just can't have it :)

That is true. I tend to purchase equipment that has passthrough capability whenever possible. That is one of the reasons that I bought the ATD. I also keep an unterminated end of my TB chain on my desk in case I want to plug in a normally unconnected device (including non-passthrough devices).

:-(

Dang so when does something comparable to the CalDigit One come out with Thunderbolt 2?

My rMBP is 2013… this would be $200 for something that downgrades it features...
