Thunderbolt not transfering audio

Isn't it supposed to? Keeping in mind it's a first gen tbolt port

Assuming your MBP is capable of outputting audio from miniDP/TB port, the problem must be either in your uDP-HDMI adapter or simply ignoring the need to switch audio output of OS X from internal speakers to uDP in Sound Preferences. The fastest you get to the selection by holding ALT while clicking the sound menu icon.
