Here we go again… Tides app shows ft instead of meters on UK regional settings. If I switch to Metric in units I’m getting km in Maps. Looks like a bug?
It's completely messed up. I'd say it's half a bug and arguably half a gap in Apple's cultural awareness both of which are pretty sad. Here we go again… Tides app shows ft instead of meters on UK regional settings. If I switch to Metric in units I’m getting km in Maps. Looks like a bug?

Like you I immediately noticed that tides shows ft and that felt very wrong to me.
I just changed my regional units from "UK" to "metric" and now the tides app on my Series 9 shows the high and low tides in metric but it still shows the tide change in feet and inches e.g. right now it is showing "Tide Rising 1.8FT 5.3M high at 23:46"! That's totally messed up so that's definitely a bug.
On the cultural awareness thing Apple sort of seems to get that a lot of Brits use Celsius for temperatures but still use miles for distances and wind speeds e.g. the national highway agency marks all road sign distances in miles and all major TV channels present all weather forecasts with temperatures in Celsius and wind speeds in miles per hour. The fact that these choices of units are baked into the presentation formats of some of our major institutions (various broadcasters, The Met Office and the National Highways Agency) I would say makes those choices the UK's default conventions rather than individual foibles although perhaps people who use km for everything including distance and wind speeds might disagree with me on that one which is why I'm not outright calling it a bug although I'd personally say it is.
Apple manages to implement these UK unit choices correctly in the Maps and Weather apps when the regional units are set to "UK" but it doesn't seem to have caught on to the fact that in our (the UK's) confusing mixture of preferred units of measurement we generally use metric for tide heights. I guess until/unless Apple corrects this we'll just have to live with it.
Valid points. Do you know how to file a bug report with Apple, by any chance? I found a few bugs when trying to convert MPG to l/100 km in the calculator. It’s broken as well.
Thanks, reported all the bugs found so far.![]()
