I have a number of TIFF (.tif) format image files which appear to be corrupt. The files are from an Epson scanner used to scan photographs. The original files are on a remote mac mini I access via screen share, but also copied to a remote HD. Preview does nothing when trying to open. GIMP gives the file corrupt error or unknown file type. I had been able to open up to able a year ago. I'm not sure if it's an OSX issue or an Epson file format issue. Suggestions welcome.

.tif files open just fine in Preview for me, 13.2, I have those local though, might try to copy them to the lock drive

Did you check the file size of these files? If you physically directly use the “remote“ Mac, the pictures are viewable? What are the access rights in Finder for them? If these photos are in Apple Photos try repairing and rebuilding the photo library.
Change the file extension to e.g. .png and try opening in Graphicconverter (GCC) - something worth trying in any case. Or remove the extension completely and try opening in GCC.
If the file size is sensible, the access rights are okay, but you’re still unable to open the files, I suggest checking the header structure e.g. in the terminal (IMHO the best option, but depends on your experience) and/or hexeditor.

There are websites which will try to fix damaged files including pictures e.g. officerecovery you might try.

EDIT: this might be a simple network related problem, do any images e.g. JPEGs open remotely?
