from a jeweler's standpoint:

Tiffany is:
well-marketed
over-priced
timeless design
long-lasting

you are paying a lot for something that is made with a mold, and it's going to be precise, but in the jewelry world, hand-made stuff is going to be a lot more expensive, rare and occasionally better.

Tiffany has one of the better marketing departments in the business, probably only behind companies like Rolex and Tag. You are going to pay more, but you are going to get the light blue box (unless you go crazy, in then you can the dark blue velvet box) and a name.

Their Fit and Finish is top notch. Customer service is also top notch.

You pay for that. Their stuff is expensive, but your not going to get a dud when purchasing from them. If you do, they will take care of you.

For me, it's the piece, not the name. If I see something I really like, I'll buy it. Not all of Tiffany's jewelry does it for me. Actually, not much of it does, but they do sell some beautiful stuff.

I have one directly across the street from where I work.

Good quality but massively over priced. You are paying a lot of money fore the name Tiffany.

I agree. It is good quality, but not justifiably priced. And besides, the only Tiffany's I've met have been men-crazed, trashy types. :p

I would not worry about quality if I were you. They are an established brand and that is not possible when you are selling junk. On the topic of overpriced or not - it is really a question of priorities. Someone is willing to pay 10000€ for a bottle of wine (and drink it), I am not.

I beg to differ. You'd be surprised at some of the crap major brands turn out. :)

Or a $400 bottle of single malt.. ;) :D

Hmmm, you are right. Newton anyone? :D :p

what about the boom box thing from a few years ago. (i think they sold about 4 of them) :p

Going back to tiffany, my friends have those bracelets with the heart clasp and it seem as though she was always there getting it fix.

Glad you went for it!

I've got a Tiffany diamond cross and chain which I purchased for myself in June, and I spray perfume over myself which will have hit the cross and so far so good. So far I've never had any problems with it and I wear it for everyday use. You pay high prices but for good quality. Worth every penny in my opinion. I would prefer a bigger cross though ;)
