Humm... my guess: Apple is going to announce availability tomorrow and launch it at WWDC. If you read the pages (which are clearly already linked to on some of the Pro pages - including the "Science" pro-page) they are in the present tense, though. They aren't written in the future tense whatsoever. Perhaps tomorrow will be the drop day?

As for the Mac OS site - it's been that way since the Stevenote in January.

this is a good point..

Me thinky Tiger is close! Closer then summer for sure! :)

Can't wait to get my hands on the final version.

There haven't been any develper releases in a few weeks... I don't know how to take that though.

well since apple is all about the marketing like nike is, you have to wonder about product placemenmt. Since webpages are so easy to setup why would they start posting these new things.

If they were really going to pull something special off at wwdc then tiger may be the foundation for say ateriod or what not.

In case Apple pulls those links from the download pages, here's what they look like on each page:

looks like they've already pulled them. edit: never mind, only from the main mac os x downloads page. they're still there when you go to the math/science page etc.

They've all been pulled from the DL section now - only the Pro pages remain.

This reminds me of the whole "PowerMac G5" debacle right before WWDC 03

Wow, thanks for the insightful post regarding the Automator, Dashboard and Spotlight plug-ins - your invaluable contribution to the discussion surrounding this piece of news is noted.

Care to say anything about the actual topic at hand, or are you just interested in bumping up your post count?

i for one think it adds to the humor of the board, and dont think it does any harm. It's only one post for crying out loud! I think people who get irrate over it need to get a grip and worry about more important things in life :p I was sure a guy from Regina would appreciate humour :)

Ok onto constructive bit: I dont seem to recall apple announcing a mac osx downloads page until mac osx was released, nor did they have a downloads section prior to new os's (x.1 x.2 x.3) being released, help me out here guys if I'm wrong. So I'm kind of hoping that Tiger will be released pretty soon and stun us all! OK and part of my reason for being anxious is because I finally bit the bullet and bought a new powerbook, I was going to wait until Tiger was released before upgrading, but couldnt hold out any longer. So if Tiger is out shortly, then I'm sure apple has some facility where you can get a free copy of their new os if you bought your hardware within a month or so of official release, or something like that. So I'm hoping those developers got their twitchy little code typing genius fingers into over drive and sorted out those bugs sooner than expected ;)

Apart from saving money by not having to buy the new release of OSX, is there any other reason why one would hold off buying a powerbook?

Heh heh - I'm not getting irate, no need to worry! When you're on these forums a little more you'll get to know me better like many others have, and know that I simply like being a bastard from time to time - it's what I do. ;) So, since I hadn't given a newbie a hard time in a while, this post seemed particularly enticing.

And yes, living in Regina, I have to have a sense of humor. ;)

It's probably a good time to buy a PB. They were just updated, and they're great machines. The AlBooks are the nicest computers Apple has ever made, IMHO. I miss the feel of Titanium, but the overall design of the Aluminum's is very refined. Then again, iBooks are awfully nice these days, and not all that different from PowerBooks....

If we disregard slower vid-card, worse keyboard, smaller and slower HD, less RAM by default, no dual-display, no lid-closed operation, case made from plastic instead of aluminium, slower CPU's, no Bluetooth as standard, no DVI, no PC-card... You are right: there are hardly any differences between the two.

The iBook case feels cheap IMO.

I hope the presumed Spotlight plug-ins for existing applications work as they are supposed to. That would make it VERY cool, not just REALLY cool.
