Write the email and press send button.
The mail dissapears, but is not sent and not stored in the "send" folder.

Thanks Apple :)

Sounds like the SMTP is wrong. I had the same problem and after a few months I finally discovered the problem. As for the .Mac problem, this is what Apple's support site says.

You may not be able to send email using smtp.mac.com if your Internet service provider (ISP) doesn't allow proper access.

Many Internet service providers block access to the standard port used to send mail (port 25) for any mail that doesn't use the ISP's own outgoing (SMTP) servers. This discourages the sending of unsolicited bulk email (UBE) or "spam". However, it can also make it difficult to send email using an authentic SMTP server other than the one provided by your ISP. If your ISP does not allow access to port 25, try the following options to send mail.
Option 1: Change the port used to send mail.
The .Mac outgoing mail server (smtp.mac.com) also accepts mail on port 587. If you're using Mail in Mac OS X, follow these steps:

From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
Choose Accounts.
Select your .Mac account in the list on the left.
Click the Server Settings button towards the lower right side of the window.
In the Server Port field of the new window, delete the number 25 and replace it with the number 587.
If you use an application other than Mail, you may wish to refer to the built-in Help for that application for assistance with finding this setting.

Converter widget

Anyone notice that the converter widget resets itself periodically whilst connected to the net if you are doing currency conversions. Most frustrating as it always seems to manage to reset half way through the number I was typing in...

Otherwise 10.4.1 has been very stable for me.

10.4.2 has been seeding

Rumblings out there indicate that 10.4.2 has been seeded to developers for testing.

10.4.2 build 8C21, comes in at just over 43MB as a Combo Update. It's rumored that developers have been asked to focus testing on approx 48 components such as: Automator, AddressBook, AppleScript, Dashboard Widgets, Directory Services, Display Preferences, File Manager, Graphics, iCal, iWork, JavaScript, Navigation Services dialog boxes, Printing, Safari, Spotlight, Sync Services, and iChat video conferencing

It's supposed to be out in a few weeks

Anybody else getting these GUI bugs?

Here are them stacked. All the latest upgrades of QT and Tiger. Maybe this will be fixed in the next release?

yeah Lacero - i don't have those GUI bugs & i'm all up to date as well.

sometimes things like that happen only on certain systems or even only on a single OS X install. who knows - maybe something has gone amiss with your install?

Why's my name bolded? Or am I the only one to see it. Anyway, it happens all the time, and yes, the Tiger was a completely fresh install. It didn't happen when I first installed it, but I think it happened after I installed several programs. Some suspicious programs might be divx/3vix, VLC Beta 2, Compressor, FCP5 or Pithhelmet.

I bold people's names when I'm talking about/to them so they can see it easily when skimming the thread. I've got no problems with 3ivx nor VLC and I recently uninstalled Divx but I don't remember any GUI issues other than the two Quicktime help menus. Maybe it's Compressor, FCP5 or Pithhelmet?

Blech.. I've finally figured out why I could never get the Dashboard Stickies to work. When I create a new Sticky, it doesn't accept any text. I have to move the cursor to the top left corner of the Sticky window and click on it.

The only indication I have to do this is if I mouse over the window, the cursor will change to the "I beam" if over a very small area in the top left.

What an utterly dreadful UI! (In keeping with most of Dashboard).

A bug that has been bothering me recently is that you can no longer take a screenshot of a dock icon and have a fully rendered 128X128 icon image.

That is, in Panther you could just hold down cmd+shift+4 release and then press the spacebar in order to do the initial setting up of a screenshot. After that, if the dock was hidden you would simply press cmd+option+d to unhide the dock and then click on the icon you wanted to make into an image. This is possible now but the image isn't fully rendered although it is still 128X128 pixels.

I hope this is fixed in 10.4.2.

Look below at the Safari icon images to see the differences between how Panther and Tiger handle this issue (The first image is Panther's and the second image is Tiger's.):

i did a clean install of Tiger and now I am trying to use Roxio Popcorn. On the Roxio website it is said that Popcorn should be compatible with Mac OS 10.2 and later. I have been able to install popcorn however, whenever I add a "Video_TS" folder the whole program just disappears. I've restarted my computer, i've re-installed the program and I just don't know what to do. I dont know if this is necesarily considered a "bug" but it does bug me.

What also bugs me is how sometimes my cursor completely disappears, I don't ever recall that happening in Pather. For instance, when i type the cursor disappears. When i scroll down the cursor disapears was this always so?

and where do i go to report these mishaps?

The cursor is supposed to vanish while you type. However, it shouldn't be disappearing when you scroll. I'd see if someone here can diagnose your issue first before reporting a bug - it's entirely possible that you've got a configuration that's causing this problem.

Having a nightmare

Just bought new iMac G5 2Ghz with 2Gb Ram.
Plugged it in, engaged target Firewire disk mode on iMac G4 - gets 80% of way through and hangs - 3 mins remaining - for about half an hour - hit the power button.

Restarted, have ended up with two user accounts now - old one from failed transfer and new one set up afresh.

Installed Adobe CS1, Office 2004 - everything works - all is well in the world.

Start work on urgent job in InDesign (brought across from old machine) with 4 new fonts installed from old machine also - all ok!

Come back to job today - new fonts have disappeared. Phone Apple, create new user account, copy files to shared folders etc, get rid of old user account, all ok until I go to lunch - come back and machine wont wake from sleep - fans going full bore!

Power off, back on and off we go again - 90% of fonts not available.

Turn off, pull out firewire - turn on, ok again. WTF??????

Seems to lose fonts or worse whenever a FW drive attached.
