Does anyone know where you can find a cheap/cheaper copy of Tiger? The only ones I have found have been 130.00 and more. I have a G4 with dual 800 processors and 1 gig of ram with 10.1 on it right now and I want to upgrade. Also have heard you could get Leapord to run with a hack but I am not sure?

    Thanks

I have over time located a lot of sources for Tiger retail disks over time, but all have been that or far more. The law of supply and demand is certainly kicking in since there is still a strong demand for the dwindling supply of legal Tiger disks. Nowhere does this show more than the Amazon Marketplace sellers- where some now have their copies listed up to $349.

I assume that $130 was from LA Computer Company-- and if they still have it in stock (as their website does not show stock status) it is a heck of a deal in spite of appearances- as that is the price that Tiger was when originally released. The cheapest place I have seen that clearly shows that it is in stock is about $250!

EDIT: and yes there is a hack to enable Leopard use on that system- a bit of Mroogle searching of the forums turned up this thread which describes it.

It is a little known fact that AppleCare agents are still able to sell the Tiger OS and iLife 08, and yes, even iWork '08. However because the discs are not being actively printed any longer, there is typically a delay of 2-3 weeks between the sale and the actual ship date. If the delay is acceptable, you could try giving them a call. If the agent has no idea what you're talking about, suggest they contact a product specialist or Sales.

Very interesting info for sure! I'll sure bet the Amazon marketplace sellers trying to sell theirs for $229-$349 sure don't want that info to get out- it might break their hearts! ;)
