(Tiger) Spotlight Troubles

So... my local storage adds up to right around 425Gb.
This includes a large text/pdf resource directory where i store programming docs and technical information of all sorts.

Spotlight went from reporting an initial 4 hour index time... to 7 hours... now.. it's "Calculating time" and chugging away. Hopefully soon i will know how long it will take before i can use the coolest feature I have played with yet... though i plan to break into automator hardcore in the next few days.

So... anyone else with large ammounts of data seeing long index times?
Uncalculated index times?

You are going to be in heaven once it finishes. In my experience, Spotlight indexing has been quite fast. It indexed my 200GB Firewire drive in 15mins or so, but its only about half empty.

So you mean you can exclude folders from being searched by Spotlight but you can't include any by choice? I could see a situation where you would want to exclude a folder with many sub-folders from being searched but want to add one folder inside to be searched. So that'd mean you'd have to go through and tell Spotlight all the many folders you didn't want to search.

If you look in /.Spotlight-V100/_rules.plist you can see that there are entries for INCLUDE and EXCLUDE and there is a comment "Specify paths to include or exclude, preceeding rules which target user-homes with ~/". Perhaps if you put folders you want to include in there it will work.
