Supposing I buy into the voodoo that a clean install is going to perform better than an upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard... and I'm not sure I do... will any supposed advantage be negated by then using migration assistant to pull all my stuff off of a cloned drive?

Doesn't migration assistant require anithe computer to be present... Not just a drive with information on it...? I know that you have to type in a code on the computer you are getting the information from for it to work... I don't think you can do that if you only have a drive...

What information are you specifically wanting to maintain once you do the upgrade?

I've read you can do it with a cloned drive. The info would obviously by all files, apps, preferences, keychains, playlists, etc.. etc...

I've done it the hard way before and it's a pain in the ass. It's not even my computer, it's for a relative.
