I made the mistake of downloading a widget for (don't laugh) match.com which promptly installed itself onto my dashboard. UGH! I can't make it go away. I've searched everywhere in my folders and applications, etc....and trashed anything i could find with "match.com". So it's no longer in my widgets folder and no longer in my preferences folder...but it's still on my dashboard!!!  Any suggestions????

Open up the "widgets" widget in dashboard. You should be able to find it listed with a red mark next to it. Click on the red mark and it will ask if you want to move it to the trash. ;)
