The question is .. why anyone would get 13" MBA?

Sadly, because of the stupid 8kg limit that most airlines impose on carry-on luggage, I and many others are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to save a hundred grams.

Retina is double the res. of the standard. 1280x800 to 2560x1600. 1440x900 to 2880x1800. 1440x900 to 1920x1080? Not so much.

What orifice did you pull that definition from?

"Retina" is whatever Apple marketing decides to call "Retina".

The fact is that Apple OSX and Apple IOS have little to no support for resolution independent displays, and therefore current products that Apple marketing calls "Retina" are 2X earlier generation products.

"Retina" has no meaning outside of what Apple marketing decides.

1440x900 to 1920x1080?

That's odd, my slide rule tells me that 2X 1440x900 is 2880x1800....

...but you may need to carry 300g of dongles because the base system has been stripped of necessary ports?

Couldn't have said it better myself. Retina is a simply a BS marketing Gimmick. I love macs, but as an engineer I have zero use for a so called "Retina" display. If anything, I get degraded performance with doing 3D rendering because the GPU is choking to push so many pixels. It's a nice little gimmick on my iPhone and ipad, but for getting stuff done I really could do without it on my main productivity machine. I need my ports as well. Unlike many others here, I actually use my Ethernet port daily, and CD drive fairly often.

I did check it and its got too many arrows in it.
can you make it again but without all the arrows please?

also I don't like tanks.
If you can put a Panda in there and get rid of the tank then that it will be great App.

awesome, thanks for checking it out.

I will change the game, and change it to panda maze with no arrows.

I've never needed either of the dongles I bought for my MBA. Why you think anyone would need to carry 15-20 dongles (300g of dongles), I cannot imagine.

Apple my MBA wish list

Wish list for new MBA: :)

1. iPad size Touch screen, keyboard folds back for tablet only mode.
2. Better Battery Life
3. Runs IOS and OSX apps
4. Built in LTE

You'll get 2) at best. All others is a pipe dream.

Agreed, that bezel is heavy; a 14" screen in the same overall foot print would be more than welcomed by many, without sacrificing battery life of course. We are a hard to please lot, aren't we. It's all Steve's fault.....

I've always wondered about big bezels for laptops. It's shouldn't be science fiction to basically eliminate the bezel, and make it a true edge to edge screen. The bezel on the 11.6'' MBA is particularly awful.

I'm so desperate for a Mac Pro (non-retina) refresh, I hope both are updated at the same time. I love the idea of the retina but not being able to stuff a regular drive with 1TB of storage with the possibility to swap out the optical for another drive is just too much to swallow.

I need 1-2TB minimum for my needs as I produce music and need space for samples, projects and may other related activities.

Anyone got an inside track as to what might be available soon? I just hope to god they don't decide to get rid of traditional magnetic drive options. Or I suppose if they offered a 1TB SSD at the same Magnetic price point but I'm dreaming or mad to think that would happen.

Time will tell

my wishlist:

bezel redesign (the fat grey bezel is ugly! I returned my mba 2012 because i get so annoyed by the bezel)
slightly bigger/better screen (no need for retina)

all the other components need to be (slightly) better then in 2012.

Why is a Retina display a BS marketing Gimmick if we enjoy the much better display for our kind of work? I get a smile on my face everytime I come from an iMac or "normal" MacBook Pro and open the Retina MacBook display. Mabye your eyes are worse than mine and/or you don't care about Retina in trade-off for a more stressed GPU or whatever, but for my work, I don't experience any notable performance limitation because of this, but a crisp-clean screen which makes my iMac (especially when reading small text) look like a Fisher Price toy display.

Retina MBP is one of the thinnest and lightest notebook out there. It's only outweigh MBA but it's also not as fast.

Plus...
Most people don't use Macbook and they don't cry to mama about in-flight luggage limit.

Well this Fischer Price iMac toy display has 680MX instead of tiny winne 650M on mighty rMBP ;)

And your point is? The claim of the OP was that Retina in comparison to non-Retina resolution is only a BS marketing gag with no useful real-life improvement (or, for the OP, even a step back because of the extra power needed). It was not a talk about what is technically doable at this point with the graphic cards in the different machines. And if you simply mean that the graphic card in the iMac can handle so much more tasks in comparison to the one in the Retina MacBook Pro: Yeah, maybe it can. Still doesn't change the fact everything looks so much worse and washed-out on my iMac and that it is clearly the inferior picture. I am not rendering 3D stuff or whatever, I have a different main focus.

Digital audio input

Apple, please get serious about "Pro" and bring back the digital optical audio input to these machines! With FireWire next to obsolete and Thunderbolt underrepresented in the peripherals market, we are left with the subpar USB as the sole audio interface available.

I'm not going to try and guess Apple next move but I do think we'll new Apple updating their laptop range at the WWDC along with the next OS X and iOS beta releases and an outside chance of some new iPad's.

Then maybe something else will be the long awaited Mac Pro update!

Retina is a step back at this certain point.

Remember iPad 3? It was actually runs a bit slower and hotter at real world usage compared to iPad 2, why? Retina Display
rMBP? Oh yes it's nice to look at, but it's a bit sluggish even on iTunes interface animation, compared to cMBP with the same 650M.

No doubt retina improves contrast and color accuracy. But it's just too ahead of its time. Notebook graphic hardware barely catch up with 1080p gaming and having Retina display on 13" or 15" is asking for trouble.

Plus it's technically a more sealed and locked machine, screw customers up. It's so easy to go FUBAR and have a hard time with the repair. I would say rMBP is one step forward and two steps backward.

It's good to see Facebook and Twitter page colors popping out though ;)

I experience no real-life sluggishness on my Retina MacBook Pro for my tasks. However, I definitely experience a real-life MUCH nicer experience when I have to read text or write documents on it (which i earn my money with) with a perfect crisp, print-quality resolution like on a piece of paper. Furthermore, Retina doesn't cause nearly as much eye strain for me than my Non-Retina, lower resolution Macs (although I'm not able to explain THIS specific phenomen - propably also because of the better resolution, contrast or whatever.) Guess it always comes down to for what you have to use your equipment and where your preferences lie - as I already stated much earlier in this topic ... ;)

Do you experience lagging issues with the rMBP?
