TikTok today announced that it will let users limit the amount of AI-generated content that they see in their feeds. There will be a new AI content control toggle in the Manage Topics section of TikTok, with a slider for adjusting the AI content in the For You feed.

TikTok's Manage Topics section allows users to adjust the content that they see across categories like Dance, Sports, Current Affairs, Fashion, Health, and more. AI will be added as a new option "in the coming weeks."

People who like AI-generated content can opt to see more, while those who want to see less can "dial things down," according to TikTok. There won't be a toggle to turn AI-generated content off entirely.

TikTok is also testing an AI-generated content labeling system called invisible watermarking. Invisible watermarking will prevent labels denoting content as AI-generated from being removed when the content is reuploaded or shared on another platform. The invisible watermark will be harder to remove from metadata.

Invisible watermarks will be added to AI-generated content made with TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro, as well as content uploaded with C2PA Content Credentials.

I get it, but I wouldn't want to miss out on the current set of AI chiropractic, gymnastics and disaster videos. They are so funny. And to be honest, I find Bigfoot preaching the Gospel strangely moving. Especially when the Bigfoot choir is singing. So I will not using that toggle

I don't often look at TikTok. This sounds like a good feature. It should be added on every service and extended to text stories also. I don't mind people using AI to clean up their writing or their own thoughts. But lately I've seen a lot of obviously AI generated fictional stories, often about celebrities, that exist only to generate clicks.

I dont see the non-Apple highlights of your life so that's great for me.

Many of us don't want to know people's opinions on social issues, political issues and other things polite company avoid talking about.
Whaddya mean MR has fantastic politics

Well hold on... is MR social media? 😅
It's closer to actual "Social" Media than real social media these days.

TikTok, Instagram, YouTube... there is nothing social about these platforms anymore. It's not about being more connected, interacting, networking or having more conversations with people in your circle. It's a bunch of voices pushing their own ideas and messaging, or 'content'. It's just TV now. Doomscrolling is just a more addictive form of channel surfing.

For musicians, it's MTV.
For politicians, it's campaign rallies and attack ads.
For journalists, it's the front page of the newspaper or nightly news.
For the city council, it's government access.
For educators, it's lessons on tape.
For creatives/influencers, it's the new studio system.
For businesses, it is where you spend your ad and marketing budget.

For everyone else, it's a never ending open mic night where, at best, you share a unique talent that people totally appreciate. At worst, you make a spectacle of exploiting your personal/private life (and sometimes the lives of those around you) while constantly chasing a trend. In the middle is a giant pile of mediocre, poorly thought out collection of 3 day old leftovers the algorithm is really only ever going to serve to your mom and occasionally people you hung out with in college but haven talked to in years.

There will be some AI content that is thoughtfully and tastefully created across channels by people that already know how to create good content, but the vast majority is just going to be the gravy on top of the ever growing piles of slop out there.

So anyway, yeah, I'd appreciate a button to leave it out.

I know it's silo'd into a sub within the forum.

IIRC I un-followed it so the New Post visible to me has that filtered out.

In the same way I filtered out the sub on PowerPC and even Intel Macs as we're over half a decade into Apple Silicon.

Ideally 1/2 of everyone Intel Macs have started using Macs with Apple chips.

AFAIK <10k worldwide uses PowerPC Macs on the public Internet.

I hope we start seeing zero-AI sliders in more places. Youtube absolutely needs one as do all Google products.

TickTock/Instagram feeds are a pure brain rot, AI content or not. You literally become dumber, because you exhaust cognitive capacity when you doomscroll.

Never been a user, decided to try Instagram reels recently. You get addicted almost instantly, waste insane amount of time and don't feel that good after.

Just delete the app. You'll feel better and become much more productive. And a better human if that's your thing.

I might be in the minority but I actually like some of the AI content I get on there. It’s quite clever/original and people can be quite creative with it.

Personally I’d rather there was a cut down on ads because there’s way too much of it on there.
