TT algo is poison to the soul—nature of apps that are mostly short form content. Unless the people running the app show a whole lot of restraint and care for the user (which technically is possible to a certain degree) they will end up pumping the most addictive content directly into the user’s monkey brain.

I love how they only allow you to limit AI exposure and not completely remove it from your feed. You'll still see whatever the algorithm wants you to see regardless of what the toggle says.

Who doesn't like having (the illusion of) choice?
I strongly suspect that they can't reliably detect AI-generated content, so it's only a heuristic.

Pens too. In a way that the first type.

Wonder why in some places whenever a famous person says something is true everyone or mostly everyone believes it. Even if not.

Is there a toggle to block the 10,000,000,000 fake "Elon" accounts that post nonsense red hat material to get gullible people to buy them crypto?

Nah, if you can't doomscroll, its not social media :D

Just a handful of forums and IRC is all I use.
I suppose it just depends on how one defines social media, but I agree that algorithms and potential for doomscroll are probably the major distinction of the harmful kind. Just articles and threads regarding a topic and a community discussing them is relatively harmless. I also appreciate small communities of social media comprised of people within one or two degrees of separation where you are not anonymous and therefore you are accountable for your words (ie. the old days of FB and Xanga).

These too, like anything, can become misused of course, but I think the potential for good mostly outweighs the potential for bad. I sometimes think I walk the line though lol.

Yeah precisely. Forums like these and others that I've been on in some cases for multiple decades are completely different, where topics are discussed by a group and contributed to by various individuals.

Same goes for IRC, I've been on IRC since 1995. It's as basic internet communication as it gets, but again its like forums but except live chat in groups for various interests.

Social media to me is FB, Snapchat, Instagram, Tiktok being by far the worst for completely rotting the brain of young people by foreign adversary that is using every dirty trick in the book to destabilize western society.
