Ver much so! But i'll spend that hope time at work to save some money for the best macbook pro that comes out ;)

I started doing HD video on the side, and now its becoming full time work. I can actually justify a Mac Pro finally (hope my wife buys that :)

I am a 17 year old video producer. I definitely don't get enough where i can live on my own (Thanks goodness I'm still in high school) But I have been saving a few hundred every month for a new laptop and camera. Don't mean to spam but check me out? http://youtube.com/sprodeboy

I am ready to forego my rightful place on my own bed and sleep on the couch for months! (which is what it will cost me in addition to the credit card bill)

I just want it to come out so the used 2008 8-core ones I am looking at on eBay will be cheaper. It's currently around $1000.

Loving your getto setup XD to each his own i guess ;)

Oh, I didn't tell you what monitor I'm going to use: a $2 LCD my brother got from a thrift store :D. It's not horrible (15" and decent resolution), but I hope to get something better once some new retina LCD technology comes out.

I like Tim's answer on Ping ... the customers voted... not something they want to put a lot of energy into. When asked if they would scrap it, he said some people find it useful. I haven't heard a word about Ping since the day it was introduced. It's a bit embarrassing. I think it should be scrapped when iTunes gets some attention (possibly this year).

It feels like Apple sort of jumped in to Ping quickly, at a moment when social networking was becoming very popular and relevant.

It seems like they placed their bets on the fact that many people had iTunes accounts, which would allow for many users. Unfortunately, there wasn't that much to "use" in it.

I see two options on this. They either scrap out the thing all together, or they work from the ground up. They have brought in FaceTime, iMessage, GameCenter, and probably other "social" stuff I'm forgetting about since Ping. There's also a rumor, I believe, of a photo sharing service coming out on iCloud for iOS 6?

In any case, the point is that they're building up all these social features individually, and there might be a point where they feel like creating some sort of a "hub" that integrates all these social features may be necessary.

Well, I can definitely confirm to Mr Cook that my customer satisfaction with Apple TV is rather low. Not because the things it can do (which it does rather well), but because of the things it can't do...

And where is that blu-ray player ;)

Apple could easily double or triple their sales if they made a second model of the Apple TV with a Bluray player in it. More not less is the name of the game...I mean consider if Apple just decided to ignore developing the iPhone with telephone companies all together and built a Skype like service of VoIP with the iPod Touch instead do you really think they would have sold 35 million of those in one year?

Especially a product as might as the mac pro. Years without a refresh and apple silently places it on the store? Doubtful
Unless of course Apple quietly removes the Mac Pro from the store.

I must say that I'm more worried than I am excited about the Mac Pro.

Edit: the store's been down a bit longer than it usually is for maintenance, don't you think?

All I hope is, if Apple do make a actual TV, which still seems iffy as TV's are a very price oriented product.
I hope they have better control over the famous Apple yellow screen issue which has bugged them over many years from 27" iMacs thru 10" iPads.
I've never know one company have the same fault on so many vastly different products.

Just google it and we have postings from 2009 (1st page that comes up) about yellow iMac screens and today we are moaning about yellow iPad screens.

Perhaps it's always the same reason, form over what's best tech wise and screens rammed into casings that are two thin and (iMac) run too hot inside.

I don't know, but you'd think they would do all they can to eradicate this fault by now. esp as it's crossed over totally different products.

Apple won't do BluRay as it means you buying cheaper movies from an actual store, as opposed to paying more for a worse quality movie from iTunes.

Blu rays aren't cheaper. If you add the amnount of TVs and players I would need to match the ability to play the content anywhere that I have with iTunes it costs way more. And as for quality the blu rays are less compressed but it's hard to tell the difference I'll take the ability to take my movies with me any day over the legacy disk model which requires dedicated hardware

What a bunch of lame interviewers. If they wanted to strike at the heart of real controversy then they should have asked, "Are you making a new Mac Pro?"

Tv should be an area of interest. I echo my comments from another thread. TV is so ubiquitous, so huge, no consumer electronics company could possibly ignore this segment.

That's sorta the problem... EVERY consumer electronics company makes a TV. It is huge and ubiquitous... and it's also a commodity.

And because the TV is a commodity and everyone's so used to them by now... I can't imagine how Apple will make it different. Let's hope Steve Jobs had the answer.

Some say this Apple television will be a screen with the AppleTV built in. Is that it?

You can already buy a hell of a TV for cheap.... thanks to commoditization. Then you add a $99 box and you're done.

Will Siri and cameras be the special things that makes Apple's high price worth it? You know Apple's gonna wanna make a hefty profit on it... or else why bother?

And this is in a time when most TV manufacturers are having trouble making money... the unfortunate byproduct of commoditization...

So again... I really hope Steve Jobs "cracked it" as the quote goes...

You can get BluRay players VERY cheap now.
BluRay disks are often cheaper (offers in store and older titles) than the same iTunes version.
As you agree with BluRay is a higher quality product (it's all about quality, no one want to move to a lower quality do they?)

And a key point...........

When you have finished with your BlueRay, if you choose not to want to keep it, you can give the disc away to other family members, to a charity to raise money for worthy causes, or you can sell it to fund the cost of another movie.

iTunes movies can be, more expensive, lower quality, and less flexible (you can't do anything else with them when finished) than the current BluRay product.

And of course you can always crunch a BluRay down onto a iPad and get a digital copy, so it's really win win win for BluRay.

If I watched ALL my TV via my ATV, I'd be a very poor man.

Lucky Mr Cook, CEO of Apple, most likely has an all seasons, all movies pass to all and everything he wants off the Apple Store.

Disclosure: I live in the UK, where we have a lot of very reasonable TV available free. Plus I'm semi-retired and on a fixed income. Plus my ISP will only give me 60GB of usage a month, that's one new movie a day and little left over for web etc.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. Of course Tim Cook is not going to admit to any potential new Apple products. However there is enough rumours and leaked information to say that they are working on a TV. I mentioned about a TV over a year ago, yet nobody thought it would happen. Then Steve Jobs book came out and it all changed...

try something new

hopefully Mr Cook isn't literally doing ALL of his video watching through an Apple TV. I do hope he [read:Apple] is experiencing the competition and taking notes.

bring it on.
retina display TV :apple:

All modern TV's are "Retina Display" already when viewed from a typical viewing distance, so it's already a non issue. You have to sit closer than the vast majority do to a current 1080p for the human eye to see any difference between 720p and 1080p as we are.

Unless you have your nose against the screen, or are using a video projector, any higher res than 1080p is totally pointless.

What a bunch of lame interviewers. If they wanted to strike at the heart of real controversy then they should have asked, "Are you making a new Mac Pro?"

Their special chairs would have been sucked into the floor and they would have disappeared forever.
The search would begin for new tame journos to "interview" Apple executives.

they were probably given a lot of ground rules

Ya think?
