Apple Maps is brilliant. Far more precise than Google Maps for turning and movement. Way better UI too, much clearer.

Google Maps wins for local business search, specifically reviews. Nothing beats it for that, unfortunately.

In the end, Apple did admit the issues with the initial release of Apple Maps and steadily improved it over the years. By the time iOS 11 came out in 2017, it was actually a pretty viable mapping system. Today, Apple Maps in iOS 26.4.2 is actually a very viable alternative to Google Maps, at least in North America.

He’s still lauded as one of the best tech CEOs. Whatever that means to everyone personally.
Again, for profiting for shareholders, he’s the bomb. The best there is for sure. Did better than Jobs would have certainly. But I think he ruined a lot of goodwill with everyone but the shareholders. Being stuck in an anticompetitive ecosystem helps.

okay. I respect that you have an opposite opinion that really doesn't seem to be shared across the board. He hasn't ruined by goodwill, in fact, we loaded up on Apple stuff this year already.

And if it's your take the shareholders were the only recipients of Apple largess, more power to you - ignoring that hundreds of millions of people purchased apples products and services since 2011, thus making it possible for the shareholders to be

😛

And that is Peter Drucker 101.

Tim Cook was good at the beginning. Hoping new CEO will bring AAPL stock price back into upwards trajectory to record highs. Thats all.

The biggest problem I have with Apple Maps these days is how ignorant the report submission staff are. We have a residential estate here - miles from stores. Time and time again, I will see outlet stores pop up ... and viewpoints from highways tens of miles away plopped right on someone's house.

I report it. They ask for more info. I provide it. They sometimes reject it, or sometimes approve it.

And a few weeks later... the pins are still on the map.

I suspect they hire centres of overseas workers to rip through tonnes of these requests per day which might have differences in language / understanding, as well as perhaps no experience of some countries they are investigating the map changes for so they often probably just guess.

This is a big reason why Google Maps wins the day for me, still.

The data quality is a big big deal for a Maps app.

Google Maps is an advertising board. Their business is selling the ads. Their platform is the first choice for internet users regardless of platform of device.

It will always lead, when the money trail crosses it. Apple is always playing catchup. I wish iAds took off. A viable does-what-it-says with minimal tracking ad platform from Apple might have changed this.
