During Tim Cook's visit to France over the weekend, he met with French newspaper Le Figaro for an interview (via MacGeneration [Google Translate]) covering topics ranging from augmented reality to Apple's future retail plans in France.

Much of what Cook said has been mentioned before in past interviews, conference calls, and other public appearances, but he did have some France-specific details to share. He reportedly confirmed rumors that have suggested Apple wants to open an Apple Store on Champs-Élysées, the most famous avenue in Paris.

In regard to a rumor that Apple secured a Champs-Élysées lease in early 2016, Cook said Apple is deciding what to do with the space. That particular rumor said an Apple Store could open on the avenue in 2018 or 2019, but no additional information has been available. Cook also had high praise for France in general, calling it a "special place" for Apple.
France has always had a special place for Apple. This is the best place to discover and chat with all musicians, graphic designers, designers or photographers who use our products. There is such creative energy.
On the topic of taxes and an ongoing dispute with the European Commission, Cook reiterated that Apple pays more taxes than any company in the world and is not involved in tax evasion. "In our view, the law is clear," he said. "We have to pay taxes where we create value."

Cook also spoke about iPhone production, a topic that's arisen as Apple faces pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to manufacture its goods in the United States. According to Cook, "the whole world" is represented in Apple's supply chain and discussions often don't take that into account, instead focusing on where products are assembled. "We have 4,600 suppliers in Europe and have spent $11 billion on the continent," he said.

In the final portion of the interview, Cook reiterated some comments he has made about Augmented Reality, once again pointing out Apple's interest in the topic. He also spoke on artificial intelligence, saying AI has become indispensable and "makes the iPhone even better."

Cook's full comments are available on Le Figaro's website, but there is a paywall in place.

On his trip to France, Cook has also visited the Apple Store in Marseille, met with Shot on iPhone photographer Jean Claude Luong, had dinner with VizEat co-founders Camilla Rumani and Jean-Michel Petit, and met with Paris-based fashion designer Julien Fournié, who designed his latest collection with the iPad Pro.

Later this week, Cook will continue his European tour as he travels to Scotland to accept an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow.

Come on, Tim. I thought you were supposed to be pandering to the left lately? It doesn't matter that you pay more taxes than anyone, the question is are you paying your fair share?
I don't mean to be a s--- starter, but that phrasing is a little odd coming from him.

What the point of interviewing him, same lines he keeps on using over and over , just use google translate .

Only thing happening is more retail stores .

The line about paying the most taxes is such a BS twist on the facts .

Tim Cook trying to save face so people stop thinking Apple are tax avoiding crooks. Which they still are.

Apple has not changed their ways, they problem is when the innovation ran out , the attention turned to everything apple related, which includes tax avoidance . This would have been a non issue if the spotlight was on innovation and apple leading the industry. Tax becomes and issue when you are that rich and your product line is being stagnated and milked. Here in Canada ... I really don't see Siri getting much better than before but I'm not using her abilities that much will try this week though.
Siri is DEAD.

And only die-hard apple extremist fanboys will dispute that and tell you how great and practical she is.

The lack of effort Apple has put into a product that started out as something really promising is disgusting and utterly shameful for a company of Apple's size.

They ever so slowly killed a promising product by neglecting it and not putting any work or effort into its further development and refinement, because they did not see how they could make much money off that investment later.

This is called "pulling an Apple" and happened to many great Apple products, Aperture only to name one.

I still use aperture , and what a shame they dumped it in favour of photos. Gimmicks and markerting over great software. Guess that happens with annual software markerting releases. Emoji emoji emoji.... on the flip side it sells, while majority would find aperture way too complicated and overkill to post pics to Facebook and instagram

You know, I don't think Tim Cook has said a single thing that I actually cared about.

Jobs used to say interesting things all the time. When that dude spoke, you listened, because you knew something great was in the works. Something actually worth going out and buying.

Cook? All I hear is bla bla bla, politics, bla bla bla, retail stores, bla bla bla, current products are best ever, bla bla bla, everything is awesome, bla bla bla, great things in the pipeline.

Instead of opening my eyes wider in excitement, I just roll them back and get on with life. Some days I actually wonder if Jobs was such an *******, that he actually put Cook in power not to make the company better, but to actually drive it into the ground- so everyone would remember Jobs as the One True Leader of Apple for whom there was no adequate substitute.

So he pretty much gave the same line of bull he's been giving everybody for the last five years.

After a $17.1B quarter, keep the "bull" coming.

The geniuses here would have sinked the company years ago, as CEOs.
