Tim Cook made his first appearance in Canada today as the head of Apple with an unannounced visit to Toronto this morning.

Just before noon local time, Cook made a surprise visit to the company's retail store at the Eaton Centre shopping mall, reports The Globe and Mail. Cook was pictured alongside young students attending an Apple Field Trip, an in-store initiative that introduces kids to coding, podcasting, and other creative skills.

Cook's stop in Toronto follows a trip to Harlow College near London, England on Friday, in line with Apple's announcement that its Everyone Can Code initiative has recently expanded to 70 colleges and universities across Europe. Last week, Cook also visited Reno, where Apple broke ground on a new data center.

Cook has served as Apple's CEO since August 24, 2011, after the late Steve Jobs resigned from the position for a final time.

Update: After visiting the Eaton Centre Apple Store while in Toronto, Tim Cook attended a Maple Leafs game with hockey analyst and former player Nick Kypreos.

I always think it's good for CEO to interact with their employees/customers at the store level. Most employees at a store level never speak or see their CEO of a company. Tim Cook having more involvement with the store level shows a sense of who he is.

That’s quite good! One question though. Why do so many posts about Tim Cook end up on the politics board despite starting out elsewhere? Is it because snowflakes get triggered seeing his name as he’s quite a progressive chap and they don’t like that?

I almost wonder if Apple should do what Google did with Eric Schmidt and create some sort of executive chairman position and have someone else in the CEO position. Tim Cook seems to be really good at this kind of stuff. Maybe have Lisa Jackson report to him and everyone else report to the CEO or Jeff Williams.

Well, answer then why there are no white kids in that class. I do live in Canada part of each year. By the way, how do you know what my gender or colo(u)r is?
First, how do you know those are all the kids in that class? It's a narrow-angle shot in a cramped store, centred on the CEO.

Second, why does it matter?

Third, no one said anything about your colour.

This is the first time he's visited Canada as Apple CEO? I could have sworn he's visited Canada at least twice before (one to visit the PM; I don't remember the other time).

Hopefully Tim was a little embarrassed when he saw that downtown Toronto, North America's third largest city, is served by a single small Apple Store in a mall. That store's been dragging down Apple's reputation for top rated retail experiences.

Makes sense - Canada’s largest city and a significant financial / tech hub.

Yea yea the rest of Canada hates Toronto.

Only got to Canada now? Tim, you don't get out much? And as a Vancouverite I have to say Toronto?????????

The Samsung store that's just opened on the north side, on the other hand, looks large from the outside ( I've yet to go in there ) .
