Which King? King Charles or the guy who wants to be a king so badly?
If Trump did declare himself king, congress and the Supreme Court would need to act fast to stop him and hold him accountable for violating the constitution, which he took an oath to defend.

If not, hopefully our military leaders would hold true to their constitutional duties, and execute the lot of them for treason.

Personally, the USA is long over due for a restart.

There's no valid reason for the CEO of a 4 trillion dollar American enterprise to meet with the American Secretary of Commerce?
Yeah.

I mean, you can despise that, and also despise why this country and world is being run the way that it is that Cook has to play nice with this administration (and there is much to despise), this is what the tech corporations have to do to not lose valuation.

The expectation that corporations are going to make statements of social justice is folly.

I think that kind of rhetoric, even if tacit, is below the standards of this forum.

That's not necessary. Criticize the decisions on their own merits, imo.
huh...? he's going to beg, as he begged before, giving that weird Apple trophy to Trump (...lol)

I laugh at people saying Cook is leaving Apple.

Cook’s new job description includes going to parties with powerful people getting drunk to discuss important matters, bribing lobbying convincing lawmakers and other politicians to not things that could harm Apple’s interest, traveling around world to with a glorified endless vacation “being Apple’s global ambassador around the world,” and occasionally stepping by to give some “advice” on major Apple decisions, as Chairman.

And leaving the day-to-day operations to Ternus. LMAO.

Tim really is taking one for the team here. He could easily have effed off with his millions to Bora Bora but instead he’s gonna spend his retirement greasing the Washington machine. It genuinely speaks to his enduring commitment to Steve Jobs. Jony Ive, for all his soul-mate status, got bored and dipped out. Tim wants to make sure not only that Apple thrives, but that his successor isn’t distracted by degrading lobbyist BS.
An yes. “Doing it for the team.”

Let’s go with that.

There’s absolutely no valid reason for this
If you read the article to the end you’d see a very valid reason for this.

John won’t need to be under any fire for speaking with politicians people disagree with. It will be seen as politics on behalf of the company. Tim will take the heat and he will be well respected by politicians given his proven record at Apple.

And not having to deal with huge tariffs that would otherwise be passed on to Apple customers when purchasing Apple products. Apparently many here would be OK paying passed-on tariffs next time they purchased an iPhone or Mac.

"Trump last week said that he has always been a big fan of Cook"

Trump's love is always conditional, and his praise always fragile, even when you've paid top dollar to buy his favor. Just one faux pas from Tim, and Don will say that he never liked him, that he hasn't been a great CEO, and that it's a good thing he's stepping down.

Absolutely.

The president's loyalty only flows to him, is transactional, and always conditional.

Thinking adults see what this all is. In the ways that individuals handle this, YMMV.

I would have liked Tim to do more of the bare minimum needed to assuage the regime.

The gold & glass trophy was too much.

Apple is guilty of helping to sane-wash this freak show of an “administration”. Howard Lutnick should be somewhere scheming or concocting tall-tales about being disgusted by convicted abusers he, in reality, took his family on a trip to visit.

He shouldn’t be serving in any administration unless it’s ambassador to Tasmania or something worthless along those lines, but Tim Cook will help lend him some credibility. 🙄

You should read about “Unitary Executive Theory". Project 2025 spends "some" time on it.
