I don't, but I'm sure some do. I've had iPhones since the 3G and every one (except one) has been either black, Space Gray or (now) Graphite. Only exception was the 6+ which I got in white because I would have had to wait weeks for a black one and it was going right into a case anyway. I'm more of a fan of the subdued/low-key look - even my cases are always black or navy blue.
Same here, all of mine have been black or space gray or whatever the darkest available version was. They always go in a case, so the color of the back is useless to me.

I've also never broke a screen. I always laugh at those who don't have a case and cry when their screens crack.

Ok, instead of thinking about "why" a color is more or less upscale, can you define the parameters of what colors are more upscale than others?

For example, I imagine upscale colours would tend to be more subtle and less flashy and bright? (But then one thinks about those red bottoms of -- is it Vera Wang high heels? -- and that theory doesn't fully hold.)Cheia

Christian Louboutin are the shoes with the red soles. In this case it "works" ... again ... really, really hard to explain. So red soles are OK .. but would red kitchen cabinets be OK ... probably not in most situations. You know how they say someone has "good taste" ... it is hard to explain why that is ... KWIM .. I imagine that Apple has all sorts of color advisors.

Judging by how they talked about having to create an all new finishing process to achieve the Sierra Blue color, I'm guessing it's not as easy (or cost effective) to create the wide array of color options for the frosted glass and stainless steel.
So make them in aluminum and give us the colors. I go ceaseless with my mini and have dropped it hard core on the tile multiple times and it still doesn’t have a scratch. If they’re going to cover it in glass why bother with the all the work on the sides?

I don't have a Pro, but it would be the phone I'd buy if I was given a choice (I have a work supplied xR). I agree that the vibrant colours are more appealing. It's something they have been doing for a while and I've always felt the more expensive models didn't have any fun colours to choose from.

Never have liked the fact that Pro iPhones don’t get colours similar to non Pro. This is also the case with iPad and Macs.

iPad Pro has just silver and space grey. iMac 24” has beautiful colours. I would think that if the bigger iMac is launched more so as a Pro variant, then it would miss out on colours. MacBook Air has gold colour, while Pro misses out on it.

For the iPhone, I would say that the last time, I truly loved the colours were with the XR lineup. Since the iPhone 11, the non Pro iPhones had pastel colours. Some of the colours are so dull.

For example, this year’s iPhone 13 in Pink is so light. Extremely light. I don’t even know why Apple would call it Pink.

For the Pro iPhones, the gold colour is beige like. 11 Pro had brighter gold. 12 Pro and 13 Pro gold is definitely beige/cream. Although the bezel attracts a lot of fingerprints, it is bright and looks good for the gold variant.

I feel that colours and Apple do not go well together. Pink iPhone 13 is barely pink. Pink iPad mini definitely does not look like pink. Also the pink iMac 24” is actually RED, and pink is only for the base/stand and keyboard/mouse.

I would definitely like Apple to offer colours for the iPhone Pro lineup similar to the non Pro, hopefully bright and colourful like the XR, and not just black/grey, silver/white, supposed gold and one new colour which changes every year. Also don’t know why Apple cannot have a product red iPhone Pro if they have it on the non Pro iPhones.

Apple could offer the current colours along with some bright colours. Definitely many love the current colours of the Pro lineup of iPhones, but I am sure there will also be many who would like to see bright colours for the iPhone Pro.

Just because it is a “Pro” iPhone, why should it miss out on colours?

I'm with ya on that. I hate the added weight the stainless steel adds.

I’d guess it’s simply that the fun colors don’t have a “premium” feel to them.

They don’t have to be “vibrant” colors on the pro models. They could be the same colors with the “matte” finish of the Pro line. I’d love a matte red pro phone.

My wife got the Sierra Blue Pro and I got graphite, not because I particularly like that color, but because Gold and Silver are also boring. Wish there was still a green variant. It's going in a case so ultimately it doesn't matter that much.

I would’ve chosen the mint color, or maybe the purple if they were available in the pro. I agree the pro colors are always a bit boring. But I usually use a clear case & put my own artwork in it, & that spices things up.

I’ve always felt that way. The only color that truly caught my attention was Rose Gold and Pacific Blue. I’m tired is seeing the same boring gold, silver and gray/graphite colors. I do envy the base iPhone colors. Especially the pink 13/13 mini.
That pink actually looks very elegant to me. I would love to see it on a Pro model and let them call it rose gold so people can feel it’s “premium” enough to match the price. 😜

Honestly I’d be happy enough to just have a bit more choice and if they achieve that by bringing back a color like midnight green and keeping Pacific Blue year to year and then have one special color that changes each year, that would be awesome.

I guess my ideal would be black/graphite, silver, gold, midnight green, pacific blue, product red…and then the special color of the season.

And the reason I want the midnight green and pacific blue to join the lineup permanently is that green is classy and went well with the brown leather accessories and reminds some people of British Racing Green.

Pacific Blue, because blue is such a popular color in general and can be tweaked year to year to perhaps be a nice navy shade someday. Navy blue fits beautifully with professional wardrobes and settings for both men and women.

Product Red to help support a cause many people believe in and because Red is such a vibrant color, which the Pro line lacks, and because red is a color valued in many cultures where iPhones are sold.

I’d love a rose gold to also make a comeback. I’d love it to be a permanent color, but then that’s really pushing the sku’s a bit.

I wish Apple would release 5 colors at launch for their Pro line.

3 standard colors for folks who prefer that professional/boing color scheme. White/Sliver,
Space Gray/graphite/Black
Gold

2-3 colors that are from the Non-Pro line. That pink from the non pro line is gorgeous. They can also add various shades reds, purples, greens and Blue. I think this way both sides can get what they want.

I just want the pro available in the midnight black color. Ridiculous that pro users still just get graphite instead of a black phone.

Apple don’t get pink at all. Gawd the disappointment when the new pink was announced and they might as well called it rose gold for all I cared
