Is it weird for me to actually trust and believe a major corporation? Because I do.

I know I probably said it too many times, but it's a privilege of a lifetime to be there, because I think there's no place like it on earth."
Earth is capitalized.

You should have no expectation of privacy for anything that goes to any cloud or server. That being said, I do trust Apple more than most companies. With their stance on privacy up to this point, I feel they've earned that.
Why? Apple is part of the NSA PRISM program.
Because they have great marketing tactics, including this interview.

Why? Apple is part of the NSA PRISM program:

Which is why I said that one should have no expectation of privacy. I'm not naïve, I know Apple collects data, but Apple's business isn't in my data. Companies are going to get your data, so it might as well be Apple, I trust them more than Microsoft, Google, Dropbox, etc.

Just because some powerpoint monkey threw Apples name on a slide it doesn't mean they were successful in obtaining or using any of Apples data.

Who am I going to believe? Someone who put Apple's name on a very amateur-looking Power Point slide, or someone commenting on MacRumors?

I'm thinking... I'm thinking...

The slide does say "Top Secret", so it must be real, right? I mean, Right?

I'll decide after I open the mail. One envelope says I may already be a winner.

Our business is based on selling [products]. Our business is not based on having information about you. You are not our product.

precisely why I will never buy a google/android device.

CE Software

I worked for CE Software for a short time(makers of QuickMail, long since bankrupt). The CEO at the time had a company meeting to rally the employees and his rallying cry was to tell us that "our job is to make money for our shareholders".. I can't tell you what a motivational speech that was. Didn't take long for it to go bankrupt after that :)

Hah... anyone who actually believes Apple isn't collecting data in one form or another is as blind as a one eyed bat.

Seriously, Apple isn't your friend, they're a huge corporation. Their number one goal is to make money. PERIOD.

If you think Apple is any different than Google, or Microsoft, or Facebook, or... on and on... then you're flat out dilusional.

But, hey, keep drinking that Kool Aid and living your life in blisfull ignorance.

People love Google for all the free services they provide, but very few realize that they're free for a reason. If you are not paying for a product, YOU are the product.

I think some people are missing how Tim says Apple tries not to collect data...emphasizing the word 'try'. Obviously, it's tough to get it across in the text without hearing Tim say it if you haven't watched the clip. It's not that they're having trouble not collecting data...it's that they don't want it. Apple's going out of its way to make sure the company's not collecting private user data.

Also hard to catch because Tim emphasizes every other word most of the time

Makes no difference what Apple says. NSA spliced right into the backbone cables, diverting everything to Sparc servers. Frontline had an excellent program on this.

Exactly. The NSA is a giant hover in a brick building all Apple's traffic goes through. Apple's secured services like iMessage still get hovered up, it just takes the NSA longer to read them.

Watch your words Tim... They go no problem with you in a box if you "cause trouble"... Please ignore the "man behind the curtain" should your security guys find them in your network.

I don't think the gubment is interested that you're flirting with someone on iMessage or through e-mail. And if you've done something illegal, why the fnck are you bragging about it online?

You know who should be paranoid? The people in the Middle East, people living in China, people living in parts of Africa and those living in the Ukraine and Russia. Also people who work for or are members of a drug cartel. The rest of us can relax.

Uhh, don't think Apple doesn't sell your personal data to companies. Because they have in the past. Don't think they won't again if the opportunity arises.

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=apple sells user data

Putting blind faith into a multibillion dollar company is a fool's errand. Don't be a fool.

Uh, from the first article:

"Whether or not Apple is actually selling customer information to third parties isn't quite so clear cut. The company collects customer data to track purchases and make future transactions easier, but its policies only say that it can share some information, not that it does."

'We Try' key words that says a lot about Privacy.

It was pretty obvious that he meant that they specifically try NOT to collect data. The way he emphasized it implied that pretty well. It wasn't "we try not to collect data", but rather "we try not to collect data."

'We Try' key words that says a lot about Privacy.

So, there is no in-between of 'No privacy' and 'We guarantee your privacy'?

'Privacy' is not black and white. Tim Cook is saying 'we try' - and I believe him. But there are always issues you don't realize that are privacy concerns, and when you DO realize it, you'll patch those holes. That's what I read in Tim Cook's statements. Besides, Apple will make MORE money by being anti-Google and trying as hard as it can to NOT collect data. It's in Apple's best interest.

Tim Cook cannot 'guarantee' privacy because that's a death sentence. Someone will find something so trivial the next day that is a 'privacy concern', (like the sex, male or female can be deduced by something) that the media will morph that into questioning anything he says. He must say 'We try'.

ZIP CODES are privacy concerns? That's not anywhere in the league of privacy concerns that Google has been caught with.

You can make anything you want a 'privacy concern' - to me, that's not. I can get pretty much anyone's zip code (and address) by a simple google search. It's other more personal information I'm concerned about.
