I'm not trying to be super fanboy here, but...
The iPhone is literally the only thing Apple has.
Then why is it that they have healthy sales on their entire Mac line? OS X is still growing and evolving. The products are getting better every year. The UX is starting to converge a bit but that doesn't mean they're trying to end it. It's growing and changing as a healthy product line should.
The TV that doesn't even support 4K
Yes shiny remote that can't beam you 4K content. Maybe Apple will make a 4K Apple TV in 2017 and you'll buy that one too.
But guess what, my 2013 XBox One is 4K ready...
And what's everyone's obsession with 4k? I'm at a university with an average internet connection speed that's 3-4x faster than my home internet speed. I can barely support a 4k stream over ethernet connected to my PC or MacBook Pro, so I know I won't even be able to stream 4k at my home (not to mention the bandwidth caps that are being rolled out by more and more ISPs) I'm sure people would be more than happy to stream 4k content to their 4k TV's if their internet was fast, but this post says it best:
There's little to no content, and streaming 4K requires loads of bandwidth to make it worthwhile. Plus most people sit at a distance / have TV sized so that they can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4K. A high quality 1080p feed is far better than a borderline 4K feed.
Apple dropping 4K support means that games and the UI will run better and faster, while not making any real tangible difference to videos. 4K or not, the new ATV is going to be a revolution.
And to everyone moaning about "the 6s is able to shoot 4k and that since their phone in another product series can take 4k video that the Apple TV should be able to play 4k content in 4k", and "what about future proofing?", and "Well we have 4k and 5k iMacs, why can't we have a 4k TV box?", please just get over yourselves.
Apple isn't super known for future proofing. They release products on a regular cycle, so if they don't do something in one generation, if it gains popularity among consumers, it'll be in the next generation.
Great, your phone is super cool. We get it. 4k is cool. Big deal. Hollywood has been shooting in 4k for a while now, but have they been able to 'properly' edit it on a 4k monitor? High-budget films could, but the lower-budget films have used the same equipment they always used, just now it's editing 4k video. If Hollywood editors can work with 4k on a 1920x1080, 1920x1200, or 2560x1440 screen, we can deal with 4k on a 1080p screen. And yeah, their iMacs can do 4k and 5k! What does this have to do with the Apple TV?
