So I'm in Italy on vacation and I was using Wind which offered me LTE speeds at times but frustrated me with respect to coverage.

I just left TIM with their SIM and I'm getting no LTE. The woman at the store explained nothing and when I showed her I had 'Internet.wind' listed in the APN section for LTE she said it didn't matter.

So I'm under the impression that I'm actually stuck with 4G data speeds with TIM? Also right now I'm in my hotel room, 2 dots of 4G TIM signal, and it's painfully slow. Advice would be appreciated. A Google search seems to show that TIM does not offer LTE. Also is Vodafone and Tre better with respect to coverage and data speeds?

I routinely get >50 mbps on my 6s+ in the Rome area with a TIM SIM card. (I don't remember if the phone says 4G or LTE.) I generally have found TIM to have very good service throughout the country, especially in/near cities.

I came back from Rome and was getting 4G service. I downloaded the tim app and had to turn on the free 4G option to get 4G speed.

If you can't get the Tim app tryba different TIM store and they can turn the option on.

Did you purchase the Tourist Data SIM package from Wind and now TIM?

Did you consider either Vodafone or Tre as options?

What was the cost and GBs you purchased.

I'd appreciate the feedback for my upcoming September trip. Thanks

I have 4G speeds. They are very slow.

I just went to the carriers and asked for a SIM and data. Vodafone and Tre don't have store near my hotel. I don't remember how many GBs I got at Wind or the price. I paid $43 Euros just now for a SIM and 20 GB of data but seeing how slow the 4G is here I made a mistake. Should have sticked with Wind. Their LTE is spotty but fast.

I don't know what my speed is but it's very slow. Perhaps as slow as 3G with Wind.

Wind jumped from 3G to LTE. No 4G. So far with TIM I have consistent 4G but it's slow.

Strange... as far as i know tim is the best one talking about speed.... try apn wap.tim.it under cellular data and under hotspot ibox.tim.it. it should work ;-)

I can't get LTE though. She didn't even offer an entry for that field in he APN field.

I hear Vodafone is the best for speed, no?

Digging around for Italy Data SIM info - for TIM it states the cellular data APN should read --- ibox.tim.it

That's what I have entered for the personal hotspot field. The rest is this.

It says LTE on your iPhone? I only see 4G with TIM.

Outside of North America, what is marketed as LTE in the U.S. is actually 4G. if you are using a local SIM from an Italian carrier, then it is normal that you are only getting 4G.

But when using Wind it said LTE at times and those speeds were noticeably faster than my best TIM speeds.

I didn't check. Equivalent to LTE back home with AT&T. TIM to my knowledge does not offer true LTE. They did not ask me to enter anything in the LTE APN field, unlike Wind. I'm getting better coverage with TIM, but not the LTE speeds of Wind.

So I'm in Italy on vacation

So can you share with us where you are in Italy and whether or not you're in one place or moving around and whether or not your service has improved, diminished, or stayed the same since you first signed up with TIM?

as far as i know 4g is better than LTE... lte is a pre-4g.
My LTE speeds with Wind were essentially identical to AT&T. My 4G with TIM reminds me of 4G AT&T.

Francavilla Al Mare. Right by Pescara. I did not leave this town.
