time between annoucement and availability

Being new to the mac world and unable to find another posting detailing this...

How long has it historically between when Apple announces a MBP line and when they are actually available?

(and when have pre-orders started?)

The time from when Jobs' would announce products at Apple's show to when you could get them is really, really variable. Also, if they do pre-orders, they have to be satisfied first, and some brand new Apple products have a tendency to 'sell out' within a few hours, resulting in a week or more delay for replenishment (ie: people sleeping outside Apple store and showing up at 2AM to get the iPhone 3G)
