I have this Linksys router:

Currently all wireless items in the house are connected to it, and so are the wired ethernet ones.

Two questions:

- Is the Time Capsule better for wireless than this router?
- Is it possible to use Time Capsule in conjunction with this router (might want to go this route since I'm only staying here for a few months, then will need to move out, and don't want to cause too much disruption)

1) probably, time capsules includes N band wireless which is much faster.

2) you can turn the Time capsule wireless and routing functions off for now (not use its router function), connect it via ethernet to the existing router and direct your computer's Time Machine backups to it. It serves nicely as a NAS type device. When you move out, just unplug and go, no disruption. And if you need a router at the new place, well you got one, just enable and set up.
