My 2nd generation time capsule (now almost 4 years old) was over heating and powering down. As you can imagine, having your TC power down and losing your network is a huge downer. I called Apple, as my MBP is still under warranty. The short version is this: Apple: Your TC is well out of warranty, but I see you just registered a new iPod Touch. Me: Uhhh, yeah. Apple: If you had apple care on it, we could get you all taken care of on that TC. Me: (not getting the subtle hint) Bummer, man! Apple: Would you like to purchase apple care on your iPod and get your TC taken care of? Me: Durrrrr.... yeah! Apple: OK.. I am goig to send you a replacement TC, just box up the old one and send it back. Me: Yay! Morale of the story: Apple Care rocks!
