Time Capsule ethernet problems

I'm getting very annoyed with this TC and I need some help

MY TC has been setup wirelessly for sometime with no problems. I turn it on/off everynow and then as I dont need it running all the time.

Now I've turned it on and it says there is an 80gig backup to do. I want to install Mavericks so I dont want to wait a week for the capsule to backup 80gigs over wi-fi.

I've tried absolutely everything to try and connect the TC via ethernet and it wont find it. Its being a real bitch. Ive turned off the TC wi-fi while plugging in the blue cord and nothing shows up.

What IP address does your computer get over the wire and from where shall it get it? Is your TC the DHCP server or some other router?
If it's the router, do both Mac and TC see it on your network?

Is the Ethernet interface on Mac enabled?
At the very end you can factory reset your TC so you can set it's networking parametets anew.
