my new 2TB Time Capsule takes anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes to startup, before the status LED eventually changes to solid green. during that long startup period, the light is amber and blinks slowly.

my old WRT54GL (running Tomato, which is fantastic), took like 30 seconds to bootup. so waiting 3 or 4 minutes longer for the time capsule to complete its startup sequence is somewhat painful.

is this normal, for the TC to take so loooong booting up? and what the hek is it doing all that time anyway... making itself a coffee??

Definitely not normal. It takes longer than a normal router, but I'd say a minute tops.
