I am happy with my router, and don't wish to use my Time Capsule's router functionality (I've switched it off in Airport Utility for now, but of course that renders it unreachable, wirelessly). How can I make wireless backups to it WITHOUT it being connected by ethernet?

You don't need to be connected to the internet to use the time cap back up feature. Create a wireless network from the time cap and connect your computer to it. The disadvantage of this is that you will have to temporarily disconnect from the wifi that does have internet.

No way around it unfortunately, unless you use it as a router. But I guess you have a better router.
