OK, in some earlier posts, I noted that my backup using a non-supported drive in Time Machine in 10.5.1 worked without failure. I have a small network with an old PBG4 with a WD MyBook 500GB drive attached to my old PBG4 667. I did a search on Google to find a command in Terminal to type so I could "see" the non-supported drive to choose which worked flawlessly with Time Machine at the time.

After the 10.5.2 upgrade, no dice. I get errors such as the disk image cannot be mounted among others you will see out there as others have had the same problem. I can still choose the AFP volume, but it fails as the sparsebundle is being created around 150MB. I can still hook the USB drive up directly with no problems performing a total or partial backup of the files I choose.

Does anyone know if Apple crippled this option to sell Time Capsules now available which I do not need since it is N and my oldest is still B technology while my MBP only is just G? I've done some rather extensive research this weekend to find many other not on this forum with this same problem.

Thanks for any insight from others with this problem. I would hate to have to buy another piece of equipment for the level of backups I needed after Extreme Base Stations were promised this option before the release of Leopard which was unlocked by altering preferences before.
