I am trying to figure out a backup solution for my macbook, when i came across the idea of having two different drives.

1. For the whole family, to be brought home every week or so to back up my entire hard drive then be stored offsite (in case of fire etc.)

2. A USB stick to which i can store my documents and emails which will be kept at home at all times.

This is all well and good but I am just wondering how to set up time machine to backup up different folders to different drives at different times.

Thanks a lot for any advice.

You could choose to change disk on Time Machine each time you connect to the different disks. I don't know if it remembers your different folders to back up settings when you do. You set that in options. I guess if you have different logins you could set your personal one to back up the emails and such to the thumb drive and the family login to back up the whole thing to another disk.
