I have made a backup of my mid2014 rMBP with time machine. So I have High Sierra installed on it because I can't update to mojave on the mid 2014 model.

So, I was wondering... Will I be able to restore my backup from time machine on a new 2018 MBP? Will my backup be compatible with the new OS?

Thank you in advance!

  1. Your mid2014 rMBP is compatible with Mojave and you can simply upgrade
  2. Yes, you can restore from your old backup

More accurately you can't restore from the old backup unless it's been upgraded to Mojave on the old system first ( as 2018 model can not boot from anything but a version of high sierra it shipped with or mojave ), but you can migrate from it at least in theory if it's on an older OS. ( ie, Mojave pull in data from older OS )

Yes, that's more precise.
