Hi. I have an old laptop laying around. I'm considering installing windows server on it. Then I'm gonna connect it to my router. Then I'm gonna attach my Western Digital My Book Studio Editin II 2 TB to the laptop via Firewire 800.

If I format that external harddisk to Mac Journaled file format before connecting it windows server pc, will I be able to set my Time Machine in my Macbook Pro to back up my stuff to Western Digital over wireless home network?

Windows will not be able to mount/access the volume. you'll need to install MacDrive

Seems a lot of work why not just hook up the external drive to your MBP? Performance will be much better then going ethernet->Windows PC->FW800 external drive.

I hate cables :)

Then if I fumble around and set a system like that? Would it help what I'm trying to do (explained in the pic.)
