So on my Time Machine, my backup folders are labeled as (obviously it has my real name)

Firstname Lastname's Macbook Air
Firstname's Macbook Pro

If I renamed my MBP to the same convention, firstname lastname as my Air, what happens to my Time Machine backups? Will it just continue doing backups but create a new folder for the new name?

Does it rename my existing folder to the new name? anyone know?

RE: tmutil...

Hi sniffs,

I haven't renamed by laptop to see what happens to the TM backup. And you probably already know this, but let's say that after renaming your laptop then TM wants to create a new backup. Well, you can use the "tmutil" to set the destination and inherit a sparsebundle so that you can force TM to use the old backup under the old name on your newly renamed laptop.

Regards,
Switon
